So it's your Unsung hero?

These Epi “Limied Edition Custom Shop” Thunderbirds are really nice. The two I have now are a cut above the Goth I have (which is a nice bass) in fit and finish. And nicer than the Standard IVs I’ve played. They are upgradable; tuners first. Maybe pickups depending on what you’re after. And if you can’t deal with the three point, there are options.

Nice selection of basses there! I've been eying a few Explorers lately, but have yet to play one. How do you like it and sound wise how does it compare to the VP?

...the explorer shown here is a Dean Metalman with a Chinabucker pup moved forward from it’s original position...sounds great now....if you want a thunderbird sound, there are the 2012 Gibson reissues....last year I saw Kim Wilde withe an Epi Explorer playing bassist...don’t own one of them..but seems they are great...

Sorry, that was not me that posted that. It is outside my areas of expertise (my areas of expertise being idiocy and watermelon head gear). And on closer inspection it looks like @BurtMacklinFBI posited that hypothesis. It sounds like it might be right (pun intended) but more importantly - another thing Thunderbirds can do - built in Metal Zone!

Thanks for the correction. BC (before coffee) postings can contain more errors than normal!

Question: I played a Epi Embassy one and a VP before buying one and the Embassy was much darker than either VP I played. I would think they would sound almost the same and wondered if the Embassy I played just had awful strings. How does yours sound compared to the VPs?

...my embassy sounded completely different (not better), don’t know why...electronics and strings might be worse....

If memory serves, each bass in manufactured in a different country...could account for something

I’m really impressed with the build quality of this one and my ‘07 Pelham Blue Limited Edition (Korean). Great value and easily upgradable. Now to find a Limited Edition TV Silver...

If you have a chance to play a Hamer Blitz, give it a shot. Mine is seriously one of my best sounding basses and plays great! I thought they looked huge but when I played one, it wasn't much different from a Thunderbird. I cannot speak for any other makes of Explorer's but if they are anything like the ergos of my Blitz, I think you would be comfortable playing one.
