Watching a doco about James Brown the other day, and there was plenty of (what looked like an) EB-2 action.

You can do plenty with an EB-2. It is time to get it out more.

What’s funny is some Beatles tunes that I always thought were played with a Hofner, were actually played with a Ric.

McCartney could play a tuba and you would immediately know who the player was. It would sound.like him and nobody else. He is amazing that way.

I love that stuff! I thought Bernard Odum mostly played a P and then Bootsy was using a Jazz. I’ve been listening to the JBs/Fred Wesley lately.

Weller's current bass player plays a Höfner through a Bassman and gets the job done.

That bass is quite different from the Beatle bass.

The doco is Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown. Yeah, the level of skill and energy required is beyond me.

Yeah, the first (borrowed) bass I played was a Beatle bass and I hated it. I bought a second hand Japanese 'law suit' Ric and the rest is (the dustbin of) history.

I'm with you. All my bass playing life I've looked upon them with a certain level of near disdain (like the Hofner violin bass). However, recently I've slightly started having a little interest in a few. The Hofner is still on the "never" list. I doubt I will ever own one, but I'm not as close to it as I once was.

The day I buy a violin bass is the day I’ll voluntarily commit myself.

When I compare a PJ and an NR, I can’t see much difference.

What makes the NR so special, other than its rarity.

If you're talking about a Gibson NR Thunderbird equipped with Humbucker pickups (either single or double) and a Mahogany set neck with a Mahogany body it's a world of difference from a Fender type PJ.

If you're talking an Epiphone PJ equipped NR with a bolt on neck and ash (?) body it might not be as much of a difference from a typical PJ Fender type offering.

...even an 90s Epi NR plays and feels different....it was the bird that choose me....

Ive never in my life wanted a Beatle bass and now I have 2 of em somehow! Both were gifts though. The ‘67 Hofner records amazingly well. The Epi Viola plays and records great too. No way in the world I’d play either live!
