That said, there are times when single coils come in handy. For me that's when I want to play super crisp and clean, or chords and simultaneous multi string playing, or with some pedals that just don't get along well with buckers. But in a 100 song run that might be one or maybe two songs for me wth the music I mostly play today. That's why I built my FrankenGoth with dual Humbuckers and coil taps. I can play down and dirty with either or both Humbuckers, then flip one switch and just have the outside coil on either or both pups activated. Very very versatile and sounds wonderful, but I have to admit it's in Humbucker mode 90+ percent of the time.

Single coils tend to be more articulate and are more suitable for expressive playing I feel. IMHO.

If I use both, I do get a very noticeable difference in tone. My neck PU is more loud than normal on the '64 compared to the most basses with 2 PUs. There is considerable drop in volume, maybe a little more than what typically happens when you use both PUs in a bass. If there's something "wrong" with it, it sounds fantastic being wrong!

Not sure if mine has the ceramic as the switch back to alnico happened in March of 2008. Odds are that mine are the alnico. In any case it sounds amazing - better than the 2013 Stingray 4 that I sold to the guitarist in our band. :thumbsup:

I know the bridge pot is original. I might have had the neck pot replaced. I've had it since 73 and I don't remember everything that's been do.......Oh, look, a gator.

My '15 and EB are spectacularly versatile bass guitars. The EB is the most Fenderish Gibson I have ever picked up, but it still has the ferocity that Gibson bass guitars typically have. It's a little brighter, because it's alder or ash with a maple neck. The differences in sound between that one and the '15 are what overcame my skepticism regarding tonewood. It's subtle and probably doesn't translate to the average audience in a loud venue, but it's there.

As it is, I'm losing interest. The Niners have a better defensive backfield, which was the undoing of the Seahawks yesterday. I expect a Chiefs/Niners Superbowl. My wife thinks Patrick Mahomes is "cute" so I guess we are rooting for the Chiefs now.
