Thanks. For some reason I thought that was the name of the other band they were playing with.

By that time it'll have changed again. It's probably time for one, enough has changed, but I'll wait until May or June when the Sun stands a chance of shining here![]()
Welcome to my world. I go over that thing at least three times a month. It’s a royal pain when they close it. And the fog can be really bad at times. Slow down and avoid the trucks.snowing on Tejon pass....YIKES..

That Del Rey is cool. I kind of thought that the 7ender Rascal bass of a few years back was a bit of a nod to that design. Thanks for thinking of me Larry! I am a fan of that genre for a number of reasons. I started out on a solid-body bass made in Japan in '66. It wasn't a Teisco, but I remember them being on the wall when I chose my first bass. (a Stadium, also badged St. George) The thing about those '60s guitars/basses is that there were literally hundreds of different designs then. It was the boom-years for inventive catering to a huge market of young aspiring musicians. (like me!) I love studying them and have favorites, including a couple that I own. For anyone interested in them, I think you just have to be drawn to that particular design/look to begin with. Then you have to make sure it is sound and adjustable (neck straight mostly) as they can be set-up for playing and they sound surprisingly good. (new) Short-scale basses are becoming more popular today and these are mostly short-scale. They are really fun to play and transport more easily being smaller. Some will go for more than others as like anything there is a 'collectors' market, but some are affordable out there. I think it's best to be able to do work on it yourself as they will inevitably need a little work to get playable.
I think I've posted my '66 Teisco Del Rey here before - it's a bit of an anomaly as it's 30" scale but the bass is as long as a Jazz bass because of it's design. I don't recall having to do any work on it other than a general cleaning/spraying the pots - it was playable when I got it.

The massive hs is nearly as long as my '64 II. I think the reason they did this is because they sold a baritone version with the same hs & (6) tuners which fill up the space above the A and D tuners on this bass.

I am often soaked in coffee. Sometimes for days.
I kinda assumed you soaked in gin. JK.I am often soaked in coffee. Sometimes for days.
I wish they were easier to find/hear down here. Back in the day, the main music store in Santa Barbara was a dealer. I have a soft spot for them and would even consider searching one out if the price was right.Well, I haven't heard about the Epi NR VP in PB IG BMM Ebony and White from NAMM yet (but then everybody is being sworn to secrecy so there isn't much to hear.
But there is this:
Yorkville Sound - YBA100 Tube Bass Head - 100 Watts
100W Traynor tube head. 4 6L6s. L&M are showing a price of C$849 (which I think is about $50 US). That is one inexpensive head! (ahem)
The other band he plays with on a regular basis is Mestizo Beat.Thanks. For some reason I thought that was the name of the other band they were playing with.

I never tried the YBMs, but word is the current 200w head distorts rather quickly... Wonder how the 100w will behave ?
The 200 uses kt88s whereas the 100 and 300 use 6l6s I think it will be more like the 300. I'm guessing similar to a V4B (at half the price).
If I recall correctly (and it has been many years), the kt88 and the 6550 are so similar as to be almost interchangeable.Depends. My YBA200/2 has 6550s. Oh and the tonestack is passive, so not like an Ampeg in that respect.
The molten caramel grind is the exact reason the YBA200 is so cool.

Well put and I agree, although I'm more chocolate fondue myself.
When I was a little knee high to a grasshopper bass player, the old men used to tell me 'you don't want to play with all that distortion girlie'. Oh yes I do. Who woulda thunk that in the future there would be internet forums full of old men talking about the four flavours of dirt they have on their pedalboards?
That’s a good thing. The other band he plays with on a regular basis is Mestizo Beat.
