Thunderbird Club

Research suggested I try CraigsList & Facebook Marketplace first, with Reverb a close second. Ebay was everyone's last choice- including mine.
Obvs I put it in the TB classifieds first. I started at $550 and dropped the price to $500 after a day or two, hoping to move it quickly to someone I know (at least virtually). With no bites, I set up a Craigslist and FB Marketplace ad. After 2-3 more days, I set up a Reverb ad. I didn't pay for FB boosts, Reverb bumps, etc. Shipping was quoted at either actual cost or $50, depending on the site, and is in addition to the prices below.
TB class.: $500
CraigsList: $550
FB Market: $550
Reverb: $600

In less than 48 hours, I had an offer at Reverb of $525. Rather than haggle, I took it. The buyer paid in <24 hours, and the package has been dropped off at a UPS pickup site.
With shipping, the buyer paid $575. After actual shipping cost (just over $50) and Reverb's charges, I should net just over $500, which is what I paid for the Pro-V to begin with, including shipping.

I re-used the packaging that @DWLANG used for the VP I bought from him, along with a bit more stuffing I had laying around (not from Thanksgiving) due to the smaller case.

Next time, I'll still list it in the TB classifieds, but otherwise I will likely just go straight to Reverb unless it's something totally mainstream- which seems unlikely in my case.
Thanks for the review..Much appreciated.

Well...nobody thunked about that fo'sho. And distortion is great on bass, they probably didn't want you to play with their toys.
But you gotta let some of us old folks indulge in terms of candy flavors. I only have 1 dirt pedal on my board and it's the only one I care for, but when you browse in the Effects forum, some have more dirt pedals on their board than most shops are displaying and just for kicks, try hinting they have too many :). And just to make sure the habit is fed, they have a whole thread about... I just detoxed from that whole scene, but I always fear relapse.

Going back to Traynors, I'm eyeballing a used YBA-300 in a local shop... need to sell more chocolate boxes first though.

Reckon the YBA300 sounds a little fuller here - better low mids.

That Del Rey is cool. I kind of thought that the 7ender Rascal bass of a few years back was a bit of a nod to that design.

That general body shape started with the Fender Jazzmaster and Jaguar and became one of the most copied guitar shapes since.

Even better, suggest that they are missing some critical form of dirt. For example - "Oh sure, you have odd and even harmonics well covered, but you really need to have the prime harmonics, that will give you that elusive _______ sound."

Wiggles news. Greg Page (the original Yellow Wiggle) had a cardiac arrest on stage last night for a bush fire relief concert. Surgery overnight. He is 48.

The Wiggles' Greg Page has cardiac arrest during bushfire relief concert

IIRC, that was the Wiggle that had long standing health (cardiovascular) issues and he actually withdrew either from touring or from the band altogether for a long period. More recently, the red wiggle and the purple wiggle both left. I took my daughter to the red and purple wiggles' farewell tour (back when she was 3 or 4).

It appears from the news story that when he collapsed on stage, the other wiggles did the same. That would make the kids think it was part of the show rather than a traumatic childhood memory.

I'm pretending to play hard to get, but will almost 100% certainly fail miserably at some point and shamelessly bring it home.

Yep, definitely helps you get through the mix and the bottom also holds it good IMO.

Monster Truck - I saw them last summer (they are local) and everyone had told me that it is a band I would like. And I hated them. Mids- especially high mids - that felt like an ice pick being pounded into my skull with a 14oz claw hammer. There are a number of Canadian bass players that are using Traynors. Sheepdogs & Sloan to name two.

I always loved the Superbirds and a few years ago, it would have been a bucket list car, but not any more. They are still cool, but I can't see how I would make good use of it; drive it maybe once or twice a month May to September.
Superbirds? Did somebody say Superbirds?

Those winged creatures are the stuff of dreams. To drive one of those to a gig, get out an play a Thunderbird.....
I guy not far from my house (in the late 70s) had 6-7 SBs and Daytona Chargers, they could be had for somewhat reasonable money. He would buy them and fix them up. Bought a Hemi from Petty for one. I used to drive over their just to see if any were out to be seen.

I was in my local L&M the other day. I was admiring a Yamaha TRBX 604 (red with a beautiful flame top). The Manager asks me if I want to plug it in to something. I said no, that would just make me want to take it home. Then he says, well just take it home and try it for a week. To that all I could say was "No, then it will just stay and I really don't need this bass right now". The manager is forever offering to let me take things home to try. I resist because I know that they will just stay. I suspect he knows the same.

:-(
Maybe they just had a bad night ?

Lolll
Funny you mention this. My buddy at the Laval store also offers this from time to time and recently even offered to lend me his own 5er if I needed one for a one-off thing. Makes me feel special, even though I know their goal is always sale, but they honestly do in a friendly way. I'm also well-known in another store and they never offered anything of the sorts.

Is this Off-Topic Friday ? Cool.

One of the things that absolutely makes me looooove playing bass is working parts like Loverboy's Turn me loose. Not on the most recent hit-parade, I know, but I recently spent more time on it after my hearing got better and can now clearly hear all those little double-notes sprinkled here and there, without any real pattern I can figure out. The one little gem I found is in the last chorus' first turnaround, just before the G note. I'm sure it's my 'Bird's fault. Never heard them before she came into my hooosss.

God I love playing bass.

Maintenance/repair question... I have this old Hamer bass (the Mutant), and the chrome hardware has gotten heavily pitted. Is there a way to fix that, or should I just replace it if I find it becoming obnoxious to behold at some point (which seems to be now)?
Thanks for your consideration, here's a photo of the bridge.
Thunderbird question coming up next...
