Well...nobody thunked about that fo'sho. And distortion is great on bass, they probably didn't want you to play with their toys.
But you gotta let some of us old folks indulge in terms of candy flavors. I only have 1 dirt pedal on my board and it's the only one I care for, but when you browse in the Effects forum, some have more dirt pedals on their board than most shops are displaying and just for kicks, try hinting they have too many :).

It's true there are more distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedals than any other by a long shot. It's probably because it can create a voice for a guitarist/bass player. A lot of the other pedals 'effect' what's being played, but D/F/O's are like the timbre of someones voice; is is high pitched, raspy, aggressive, smooth, etc. Pushing them with high-gain amps and various driver combinations is what makes these pedals even more expressive, and why certain ones do this and others do that. They don't "turn your sound into ____", they enhance your voice! Once I understood this it makes perfect sense why they are the most popular and varied pedal. :bassist: I have 2 on my pedal-board, both MXR; distortion on the d.i.+ and a bass fuzz deluxe.

My friend had one of the plasma pedals and it was very cool to play around with. He sold it when he was going for a really expensive bass and was flipping anything he could.

Maintenance/repair question... I have this old Hamer bass (the Mutant), and the chrome hardware has gotten heavily pitted. Is there a way to fix that, or should I just replace it if I find it becoming obnoxious to behold at some point (which seems to be now)?
Thanks for your consideration, here's a photo of the bridge.
Thunderbird question coming up next...

There is a Hamer USA group on Facebook. Might be able to pick up a cleaner version for a good price. Worth asking around.
