Thunderbird Club

Superior is subjective. The neck - thru is "superior" to the set neck, and the set neck is "superior" to the bolt on - in some ways. In other ways, those 2 designs are inferior to the bolt on. Also, there are tonal differences between all 3 designs that distinguish them from each other. Some players prefer the feel and sound of a bolt on neck. Others don't. I guess what I am saying is that none of these designs are subjectively superior to the other - just different.

Yes, that's relatively true. The journeyman luthier who makes my necks is of the belief that the tilt-back hs design is superior for better string tension/break at the nut and obviously no need for a string restraint/tree. String-thru and set neck I agree have advantages and disadvantages and sonic differences.

Love my gold Jack Casady! I have been very happy with the sound and feel of the Ernie Ball Cobalt flats I recently put on her. I bought these two packs while here in Az. Thinking about trying them on my 5 string Thunderbird. Anyone have experience with flats on a bird? Great idea? Crazy heresey? Any advice greatly appreciated
Excellent idea. Currently have TIs on the '76 and Fender's on one VP--and they are really impressive, I might add. I have tried EB Colbalts- good to really good. Labella Low Tension Flats were really good. On the VP's I think my favorite flat is the Fender's, but I've only used them live once and a practice. The Fender's also sounded great on the '76 as well. So Thunderbirds and flats are a wonderful thing!

I've been interested in it, especially playing dub-style reggae during the summers... get a combination of enough lows and enough presence in the mix has always been an issue. Lately I've found that I don't need much below 80Hz to deliver, much lower than that starts sucking up available power for little result.
I have an FDeck HPF that I’ve used for upright, and I usually run 2 x 210AVs with my cover band.
Now I have a reggae band in the works and I need to get my gear worked out for that.
An HPF on the pedal board might be a good idea so I don’t kill speakers. I’m using an SVT-15E for rehearsals and thinking about getting another one to stack for gigs.

I’ll need to leave the Fdeck out of my board so my kid can use it when she amplifies the upright. What do you guys recommend for the board?

Ah, that's *your* page! Cool, making good use of FB.

Yeah I started it a couple years ago and its up to over 1300 members now. Michael Hillerup has a page as well but I believe that is strictly for Gibson & Epi Birds.

I use the D'Addario ENR71 half-rounds on my Epi Classic Pro T-Bird and I am very happy with it. Not *exactly* flats, but they certainly work.

Ok, now I'm understanding the use of these in a live setting. You've encountered that boom often? I know what you're talking about, but I think I've historically used my dirt pedal to tighten things up. Granted, the HOF would probably be the more elegant way. Like a lightsaber. I guess if I start playing out regularly with this project, I'll see if the need comes up.

Yes, it's a thing with me. Probably my barbarian playing style and settings (I am @Gaolee's twin after all).

It's an 'electric bass', not an 'electric high mids'.

I missed this one last week on Facebook Market Place..It was just a little bit to far from me to pick up.VP with case, cord and two sets of Boomers for $350.The Bass was in NC...Hell of a deal.I was hoping that someone here picked it up.
What a deal. Around what I paid for my burst VP. Can't beat a great instrument at a steal. And Boomers do sound very good on a VP.

I think that's what my BBE Sonic Stomp pedal does - I think of it as a comb that clarifies the tone/sound w/o changing it. I leave it on whenever plugged in whether with or w/o other pedals.
That's a good way of putting what it seems to be doing. I have my Sonic Stomp roughly at 10:00 and 12:00. What you you say those settings are doing the lows and the highs, in layman's terms please? I can't quite figure out what exactly it's doing or how to make the most out of it. It seems to make some basses sound a little better and a few maybe a little less good.

This will fit under the board:

Or this if you like to look at it or switch it on/off:

I used some GHS Pressurewounds on my white VP today and really liked them. They came on the burst VP rescue from GC and I took them off. Tried them on the white VP and I think they will stay a while.

Hmmm. The Damnation does let a lot of clean bass through, but I'll definitely think about it if it comes up with the current project I'm working with. But also, like I've mentioned before, in NYC you're usually at the mercy of whatever house rig you're forced to play through. How many times have I gotten to use the GK MB500 I got years ago when I was playing consistently in a band? 0. Wishful thinking I guess.
What a difference. No place down here has gear. Bring yer own.

Love that group! Thank you for that.

Thank you!! Similar to this group as far as being pretty drama free. Quite a few people from this club are members there as well, which I am sure helps the vibe quite a bit.

Sounds really cool. Too bad it's on facebook. Non-starter for me.

Totally understand that.

Mark Gooday (Ashdown/Trace Elliott)as cool as ever...never seems to age...

the T-Bird is a steal (with case) at around 1200 bills.... great neck and VERY versatile...apparently Rudy Szarzo and Glenn Hughes picked one up..

I'm liking the looks of that Thunderbird. If RS and GH picked one up, there must be something special about them. I don't think either of them are Ashdown endorsers (but I could be mistaken on that).

Must be cold there - ball cap replaced by wooly hat...
