Thunderbird Club

Well, I am officially retired TODAY as of 11:30 AM. Now I have the time to write more songs, play more bass, get decent on guitar, go to the gym 3 times a week, learn Spanish, then Italian, see more of the kids and girlfriend, and still have some leftover time to drool over the Thunderbirds posted here! :smug:
Congratulations, Sir! Buy more gear!

Retirement isn't the end, it is the beginning; you have achieved enough financial stability to do the work that you enjoy/want to do.

For me, the joy of entrepreneurship is that I will never retire. Just change the amount of what I do. So I may not get to actually name a retirement date.

Marcus King Band at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz tomorrow......:hyper::hyper:

Hey Club!

I found another thread of someone who has the same issue, and also crawled the internet about this topic.
So my VP is 9 months old and already has a good amount of fret wear. More than my 13 yrs old gothic version and almost as much as a cheap peavey milestone i have that is about 10 yrs old. I play nickel roundowund, and used flatwounds for like 2 weeks inbeween. If i bend he strings (and i really do not fret really hard) i can see the marks in the frets i think. like a footstep in the mud. not really abrasive but a mark.

Did some of you experience the same super soft wire material with their Vintage pros?

cheers
I was not aware of anything like that. It must have been a bad batch of fretwire if it is happening to a number of people.

Couldn't even finish the last day huh? :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Seriously though -
Huge congrats man! The way I see it, with the way the retirement age and rules keep changing, I'm working 'till I'm dead. I saw a meme a while back that said "I have enough money to retire today and live comfortably for the next 12 hours." Sadly, rings far too true.

Congratulations!

yep, I can't not do something.....as long as I can play and work on music gear I'll be good.....
maybe buy this bar?....;)..

Huh, I forgot all about this one. Since we were joking about phone numbers in songs in another thread, I posted my favorite phone number from a song - 2817668 - and nobody seemed to know the reference. So I posted a link to the video and low and behold - THUNDERBIRD SIGHTING!!!!!

Love me some big hair and screaming guitar solos.

:hyper:Congrats on the retirement!

I loved my job, but retirement was the best career move I ever made. Instant stress reduction that probably added years to my life. Retirement has drastically increased the quality of my lifestyle and relationships with family, friends and loved ones, and has restored a proper balance of physical, mental and emotional focus.

Word to the wise - Be sure to initially allow yourself some unwind time to relax a bit, then set some challenging goals for yourself that will keep you mentally and physically fit. But most of all, enjoy your new life, you worked hard for it!

Good catch. I hadn't noticed, but I'll keep a close eye on on the frets now to see if there's any problem. What brand of nickel rounds and flats do you use? I've found EB Cobalt Rounds to be VERY agressive on other basses, haven't tried them on my VP though. No problem with Cobalt flats.

No problems with any rounds-flats on everything.:)

Hello! I just got an awesome 2006 Gibson Thunderbird. I'm really happy with how it sounds, but just noticed it has a tiny crack (or is it just the finish?). Anyone of you had a similar experience? Should I be worried or is it normal? View attachment 3689756 View attachment 3689759

Congrats on the bass!

That is absolutely nothing to worry about. It's the v notch for how the wing was mounted to the through-neck. Probably just in the finish. Or maybe the wing was flexed inadvertently and it may have separated slightly just on the end. Still nothing to worry about.

Very nice Thunderbird, and as Larry says it's likely just in the finish, I wouldn't worry about that. Happy to add you to the club if you like.
