Oh yeah, I forgot about that episode. Actually had to search Google Images to see what the bass looked like. Last time I saw that episode I wasnt playing bass yet so I didnt notice. Guess that makes it my first Simpsons TBird then.

I have a 2013 Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro. Could I please get a number?

I have a Peavey Fury strung with flats. How can I dial in the 'Bird to get something close to that tone or is it possible? Even a P-bass sound. The Thunderbird sounds so bright compared to the Peavey. Thank you.

Thunderbirds are pretty aggressive and bright sounding. I have a bolt-on Epiphone that's not as bright as a Gibson or Classic Pro, but it's still never going to get mistaken for a Precision. I'm not sure you can get a 'Bird to sound like a P without radical surgery.

I'm thinking that the selector switch for the three pickup Epi will be a replacement for one of the volume controls, although ditching tone controls and using each of the knobs as an individual volume control for each pickup might be a better way to go. I have been using the tone controls quite a bit lately, but having a Dimarzio One up by the neck is its own form of tone control.

I can never really find a use for tone controls.

I'm thinking three volumes and that's it. You don't need a toggle if you can turn the volume off completely with a pot.

Eh, if you want to completely switch pickups really fast, it can be good to have a toggle switch.

First put flats on the T-bird. Then turn off the bridge pickup.

Thunderbirds are pretty aggressive and bright sounding. I have a bolt-on Epiphone that's not as bright as a Gibson or Classic Pro, but it's still never going to get mistaken for a Precision. I'm not sure you can get a 'Bird to sound like a P without radical surgery.

They don't sound that far apart if you use just the neck pickup, though still not quite the same.

The Y Shaped ones for a couple of reasons.
They appear to be direct replacements for the ones that come standard on the bass. The standard ones have been really good for the 7-8 years I have had the bass.
I couldn't find the special clovers specific to a TBird in Australia or even a current importer and I despaired at trying to get the right ones dealing direct from the other side of the world.

BTW, I have a set of Grovers from my 2013 Gibson, if anyone needs/wants them, PM me.

I bought that bird around 2003. I was much younger and a little bit dumber. I bought it to match our guitarist's cardinal red firebird! Just a lucky fool to find this rare bird! I played a few gigs with it. The tone is incredible. When i found out what it actually is...well...she's safely away. I found out there were originally 5 made. One was lost to a movie set fire. I saw that some knucklehead refinished one and reconfig'd it to be a "barritone bass" (??)...so now as far as i know, there are three originals. I also found out that the Gibson custom shop had NOS pickups "laying around" from a 68 so they decided to throw them in!
I do give her good lovin' now and again...but am hoping that will translate into my son's pizza and wh0re money when he gets to college.

Hence why i'm building my own with a p/double j config Cause Honestly, my small 15 watt combo amp doesn't do justice to the massive tone my thunderbird has (nor does it for any bass i've got, but somehow i can always find a useable tone with them - not so much my thunderbird)

Got an ebay issue..a fellow sold me a Tbird who lives down San Diego way. He wants me to pay via Paypal, and when it CLEARS, we can setup a meeting. And it sounds like he want me to go all the way to Lo Jolla, when the ad says anywhere in San Diego, Orange county...... He says he's gonna report as no payment. I said fine, but pointed out that I have 300+ successful ebay transactions, and he has none!

Sounds like a scam.

Never buy from someone that has no eBay history. Also, beat him to the punch and cancel on him through the eBay process.

Yes - definitely sounds like a scam - stay on top of this because the eBay system can get pretty convoluted so keep records (have everything you send/write sent also to you) and keep it moving until it's resolved. EBay works best when it's a multiple buyer/seller with 100% feedback rating or within 1 or 2% of that. As Larry V sez' never again deal w/a 0 eBay history unless it's for something very inexpensive. Everyone (including me years ago) starts from 0 but I deliberately built my sales/rating buying small parts in BIN auctions. Good luck.

The 91 Gibson Custom Shop. Has NOS pickups they had "laying around" from a 68! Beast.

Those skull knobs have a similar effect to tort pickguards o PBasses. The tone is now unbelievable.
