It's the nickel.
And if I had a nickel
For every string that I put on
I would be the nickel man
And sing the nickel song!
I've got a set of brand new nickel strings
You got a Supertone

Lay down, lay down
Lay it on down
Let your Cobalts smile up
At the ones who scorn and frown

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I have spent the day snoozing and having bizarre narcotic fueled dreams. So of course now I can't sleep. I head home in the morning.

I won't be able to play for at least 6 weeks. So I will have to find something else to do. Current contenders are transcribing songs I want to learn and development of other fruit related garments.
I suggest creative use of the internet for entertainment purposes. It can also fuel weird dreams. Heal fast and astound the docs. You are the man for the job.

I keep liking Burners more and more. The Flamingo gets a ferocious Entwhistle sound with a bit of eq scoop. It goes from rat motor rasp with a bunch of brown and silver marbles crashing around to black and teal and electric blue with those strings. They started out just even uninspired brown. They needed to be broken in. Who knew!

The PB NR is home! The very pleasant seller shipped it by Fed Ex. Took almost exactly 72 hours to get from Austin to Cali. He packed the as new case in the original Gibson shipping box. He included the TR tool, the little owner’s manual, the product card and an extra set of new strings. I’m having no issues with the bird. It’s in very good condition, everything works, and if the 7th fret is loose (can’t really tell), I’ll deal with it. The FB is nice and dark. The neck is straight. Action is low and it sounds great. It has a Corian nut; a first for me. It is noticeably heavier than my ‘15, but not overly so. I’m happy to have it.

Today is the day. In about 3 hours I will be having my left shoulder repaired!

Right shoulder repair is likely to wait until late summer to allow full recovery of the left.

Just saw these.
Glad to see you're back and in good spirits, I gather the procedure went well ? Six weeks off the stuff is a bitch, went through that last fall. Read a few books, including Geddy's BBBoB, watched an insane amount of Netflix series and movies (Peaky Blinders, The Sinner...) and listened to a lot of old acoustic stuff (CSNY, among others). Actually, time flew rather fast. I'm wishing the same for you, my friend.

Cheers from the other end of the 401 :).
Mike

Just bumping a question I had a couple of days ago back to the top. Didn't get any answers on the last go round in this fast moving thread. Still looking for insight.
No "regular" Gibson 5'ers, just Studio models and that means no 5'ers with a raised center unless you go custom, like Cataldo.

The studio model was the only one to my knowledge as well.
Ran across this ad in Guitar Center...

No mention of it being a studio model and considering the condition it's in it seemed priced pretty high for a studio V. I was able to zoom in on one of the pics and confirm no raised center, so it's a studio but I've never seen one in heritage cherry, I thought they were all black. Oh well, continuing to keep my powder dry for an Eppi NR VP release.

I had a Studio V in Cherry. She was a beauty but she suffered from a weak B which I heard was common in the V's. I sold it and took a chance on another V and its B sounds THUNDEROUS! No weakness at all.

I really like the fivers, one of these days......

If you're looking for an Ebony one, let me know when you're ready. ;)

Did anyone try the Nikki Sixx strings? Looks like the whole Helix line was discontinued. Anyone got the skinny on that?

I tried them out for a while on my BlackBird. They sounded good to my ears and reminded me a bit of the DR HighBeams but less finger noise or less "zing" as I call it. I would buy them again if they were available.

Congrats! Looks fantastic! Glad you snagged that great looking NR. It went to a good home and not some guy who.... Well never mind. It ended up where it needed to be for proper care.
