Thanks! Puts my mind at ease. I saw something about having a lot more wattage than what your amp puts out as a safety net, but maybe I misunderstood the reasons. But also, Internet.

There is always a concern of over powering anything. That is why the Sensitivity or Efficiency rating of any cabinet is important to understand. The DBs per watt thing.

So many cabs can have similar designs like four tens; but one may be only an 87 db per watt cab, while the other four ten may be a 103 db per watt cab. That 6 db difference is real obvious when playing. Remembering 10 DBs are an approximate doubling in volume.

So, it can be easy to crank one cabinet, while another doesn't need cranking to get that volume. And that "Cranking" can cause distortions and or damage easily.

The original Goliath, which I ordered, I think is 100db. Hard to find that spec for it.

I prefer the way your NR looks best. The other layout seems odd. Which is why I just can't buy the blue one above.

As I've looked at them, I almost think the other way makes more sense. I run my chord up over my strap and into the input jack. This tends to put it in the way of the tone knob. Seems like it could be an easy switch...

We tend to think of the wattage numbers as exact, but they are really just guidelines.

A 15% difference in the specs between an amp and cab is close enough.
If you’re cranking it way up, you need to pay attention even if your cab is rated for more than your amp can deliver.

After inspiration from this thread I pulled out my 11.75 pound RD for Saturday’s gig.I’d forgotten how well balanced it is. Lately T- Birds have been getting the gig call so it was nice to switch up.It was Thunderous ! Looks like l’ll put it into rotation for a while

Coolio! After buying my RD, I'm going to use it as my backup / change-of-pace bass, keeping my much lighter Thunderbird as my #1

Love your RD! Gibson did a great job on the 'burst with those! It's a big, sexy bass!

Here's a question for the TBird clan...

Did Gibson (not Epiphone) ever make a 5 string Thunderbird with the raised face like normal TBirds (not the studio model)?
Just bumping a question I had a couple of days ago back to the top. Didn't get any answers on the last go round in this fast moving thread. Still looking for insight.
