Hi all. What strings are you guys using on the Bird? What is considered the best ones most people use. Thanks

Bwahahahaha! All but about three people like Cobalt flats. They're the faves for some, at least on certain basses, and runners up for others. PillO, OtOH, is fatally allergic. I have to say that Rotosound RS66s are pretty awesome, sounding, too.

will I need to file the nut for these. What are the pros and cons of heavy?

Dunno about Gibsons, but the Epis I have played came with 105/85/65/45 (well, except the fiver). So if you go with those, you will very likely have to file or replace the nut.

I studied the guy intensively as a History major. Actually read the transcripts of the tapes. Seriously. acid or no acid, the guy was nuts. Scary nuts. Kinda like the g,,, nope won’t say any more. I like it here and don’t want to be banned.

I know. That's why the idea of him tripping seems dangerous. All bets are off at that point.

If you’re on a budget, Dunlop Super Brights sound great on a bird. So do EB Slinkys, but they die fast.
Slinkies of any sort seem to die fast (other than Cobalt flats). When I was playing guitar regularly, I loved Slinkies- for about the first hour. They went dead, or they just broke, too quickly for me.

If we ever meet, we could have a fascinating discussion about Tricky. He was a smart guy. But bats**t nuts. I’m not a fan at all. But his Library in Yorba Linda is a good way to spend a half day in the OC.

Anyone who lived through those days and was really paying attention was likely to understand that. The revelations since just held a magnifying glass up to it.

Wah wah wah, we don't have any rain. Wah wah wah, we have too much rain. There is no satisfying you Aussies.;)

Seriously, stay safe. Sounds like a day to work from home. You seem to be getting some wild weather gyrations.
Someone more learned than I wrote this in 1908.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

I, sir, stand corrected. Please pass me a watermelon dunce cap and I will stand in a corner. . . PillO will be very happy. :smug:

There are no watermelon dunce caps. On the bravest, strongest, most intelligent wear melon headgear!

One other thing -- if you put a country/province/state in your personal details, it makes it easier for people to offer advice and recommendations. We promise we won't come over ... well @PillO might -- watch out for a man in a watermelon bikini.

I am unlikely to show up. However, I do have minions world-wide...

They might be one of the best strings for a beginner because they are so forgiving on improper left hand technique. Stainless steel rounds will be the least forgiving string but will force you to improve your fretting technique to get some very nice sounds. I personally like the Fender 7150 rounds and Cobalt flats best on the VP.

I am on the side of having errors being pointed out explicitly. That is the best way to improve. Otherwise, sloppy technique can be covered up for a long time and bad habits can become ingrained.
