Amp head vs cab wattage question. I just bought a used SWR Goliath 410 from GC and realized that it's rated at 400W and 8 ohms. My GK MB500 pushes about 350W at 8 ohms. This is ok? I thought the Goliath had more power. The later ones do.

The GK MB500 will work fine into an 8 ohm cabinet rated at 400 watts RMS.

It is more of a concern if the wattage numbers were reversed. IE: amp delivers 400 watts into 8 ohms RMS, and the cabinet is rated at 350 watts RMS.

I basically agree, but how often do any of us have the volume at 10-or 11 where available. 'Course if we're pumping 800-1,000 into it, ya might wanna have a fire extinguisher handy.

you are correct, but as you say, it has to be “a lot more wattage” iow, a 50 Watt head into a 500 Watt box for example. your combo is mated perfectly...

Really depends on the sound you are going for. Provide that and you can be provided somewhat more useful suggestions. I've got four (5 if you count the old Embassy) and they all have different strings.

Side Note: It's wonderful that some posterior sphincter won't have the under-clever thought and say "search if your friend" in this club?!!! This is a good place and you'll get lost of good answers.
