Thanks! That's my Custom Kraft hollow-body, pick/palm muting. I used it because of this live performance of Dusty - the BL is the bass player, (to her left) playing a hollow-body. Yes, Kirstin is a superstar - to us anyway!
Can't beat the sound of humbuckers. Jimi sounds great playing a Strat, but he sounds even better playing an SG.
I can't see what that bass is. It's not an EB-2 or Rivoli, based on the size of the neck pickup. The pickup is in the right place, it's just not big enough.
Sorry to hear this. So many really nice instruments came out of his shop.I'm deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing, he was the nicest guy and an incredible luthier. He did all my work, set ups, built me a beautiful Thunderbird, knocked it out of the park.

I had some on the white VP and thought they sounded really good, for what I was looking for anyway. Pleasantly surprised in fact. I like GHS Round Cores the best on that bass, but the DMs will likely end up on it again at some point, unless they are a perfect match on something else.
Piraro is great. And those are a lovely couple. I bet they make beautiful music.
....my actual darlings....medium scale Cataldo and Pbird ....nut width 1.5“...

Your Cataldo is basically...perfection![]()
DM was my main string 30 yrs ago, and heard they've changed. So have most of my basses and everything else I'm playing through, so I really can't compare. I tended to use the NPS versions, as I was never into clank. Sounds good when others do it--generally--but never fit the music I was playing. You might be interested GHS Progressives, which tend toward the aggressive side, but not harsh sounding. As a long time user of Blue Steels they are not the same string they once were. I tried a ton of other strings and ended with GHS Super Steels. Give em a shot.
I can confirm the 2 point Hipshot will not work. I took the one off my Dan Armstrong copy and tried it on my VP.I have 2 Epiphone Embassies, the white, and a black. I like them both, but for some reason, even with the bridge screwed in all the way, I can't get the action on the white one as low as I'd like.
I assume short of filing the saddle shots, I need a Supertone? Should I be looking for a 2 point? Why not a 3 point?
I can confirm the 2 point Hipshot will not work. I took the one off my Dan Armstrong copy and tried it on my VP.
Someone here was having intonation issues with heavy strings on a VP and I thought that might be a solution for more saddle travel.
Epi Blackbird/Thunderbird Pickups
Hi all.
I have received my Blackbird today... finally. First. Can I have a number and officially join the group?
Can you guys looks at the photos of my bridge pickup. It looks like it slopes towards the nut. It should be level right? It slopes towards the nuts. The photo doesn’t do it justice, slopes worse in real life. I tryed slackening it and retightening bit sits the same way. How much gap to you guys have between pickup and string. Thanks
