Thunderbird Club

My rig sounds quite good.

This is the house bass rig in one of the places I'm playing:

Ampeg SVT Classic tube bass amp
Ampeg 8 x 10 bass cabinet
I owned a mid 70s blue line SVT/810 rig. Played my 67 NR through it in a Miami Beach hotel lounge. It was really more amp than I needed for the room, but all the "cool" guys were using them so I hadda have one. :meh:. It never got 'pushed'. Maybe that's why I was seriously unimpressed, but I honestly think my funky-@$$, old (1970) Kasino [200W/2x15s] woulda sounded just as good if not "gooder". But I had the $, and major GAS for the 'peg. Shoulda saved the coin and bought a second THUNDERBIRD.

did you buy it new? remember how how much you paid?

“Nearly four decades ago, the Thunderbird bass design was introduced by Gibson.”

that Sweetwater page for the std IV Vintage Sunburst.

Epiphone Thunderbird IV - Vintage Sunburst

so now we have proof from the net that the mighty THUNDERBIRD was first introduced in both the late 1950s and the early 1980s.

They told you not to screw with time, Avengers, but would you listen? Nooo...
Looking at the pics I question the "Maple neck". What's listed, what the specs say, and what I see don't jibe.

been trying to lose some weight and get a bit fitter. Been doing ‘ParkRun’ on a Saturday (as a walker) when the course isn’t flooded, or the air too smoky. Stepped it up last Thursday and did boxing fitness class.
Since I cooled down that afternoon been having a sore neck that doesn’t want to turn to the left and bad headaches. Yesterday, headaches retreated but the pain started extending into my left shoulder.
Went to a physio yesterday and he has helped my neck quite a bit, back again tomorrow. He thinks I have a small tear in my left rotator cuff as well.

Odd week, not comfortable. I’m not boxing today.
It's never too late to improve your fitness. However, it may be too late to do it the same way you used to when you were in your 20's and 30's. I was very active and athletic up to my 40's, then a desk job consumed my life. For 25 years about the only excercise I got was at a computer keyboard, walking to a coffee pot or meeting, or running to catch a plane.

Now that I'm in my 60's I've found two things that seem to strike a perfect balance for me to stay relatively fit. First - low impact cardio workouts, to get my heart, lungs and muscles some needed exercise without over stressing joints and tendons. I try to put in a nice fast paced 5K walk every other morning. Second - careful Iyengar or restorative type yoga, to keep my joints loose and tendons and muscles stretched, balance and core enhanced, and even a bit of state of mind relaxation. I do the yoga on the days I'm not doing cardio. This all takes about 45 minutes a day and alternating between walking and yoga seems to minimize pain, stiffness and injury. YMMV

There's no way I could do boxing or kick boxing for excercise, it's way too much impact for my joints and too much rapid extension for my muscles and tendons. I'd end up with more injuries than I started with and would soon be in a situation of resorting to rest for healing thereby not getting any excercise. That's exactly what I went through when I decided to start running a few years ago, more knee and foot injuries and down time than excercise for me.

Similar. I did remain active despite a desk job and copious travel. But age has altered what I do.

I had to quit running in my late 30s. Many years of running in the army, some of it while carrying 40+lbs and a number of running injuries have taken their toll. I stopped lifting weights in my 40s, partly for health reasons. I quit yoga as well (for injury reasons no less!).

But I remain active. I have worn out an elliptical trainer (5 years and a lot of mileage), I do stairs, and I skip. I kayak and I ski. And I rollerblade. I don't think I will ever want to stop doing things.

Eureka, success! Babicz is on the NR. Took all of 20 minutes to remove the three-point and strings, check that the bolts for the Babicz were the correct ones, install it and restring, and set string height.

do you have a link to the bridge?

Surprise #1: Saddles were set at the correct position for intonation out of the package. E may be just a tad sharp...but not by much.

Surprise #2: Sustain is longer than with the stock three-point.

Bottom string wraps are off the saddles. And look at all the saddle travel for adjustability.

I like it. Some adjusting here and there this weekend and this bird is all set.

yeah for the typical gig I go with my Markbass rig although sometimes I'll use my Eden setup. tonight I used a GK 250 Watt top into a GK 4X10 box....more than adequate..
I've reached the point of whatever the minimum I need to schlep for the gig, the better. Still takes 2-3 trips using a cart: 1-bass amp, duffel w/ cables, mics, bass stand, etc., 2-mic stand, music stand(prn*), stool[shot knees], amp stand, bass, [3-PA(JBL EON one, Yamaha mixer)if we're using my PA]. If I can 'get by' with my Rumble 40(16#) for a restaurant/lounge gig, I will. Tomorrow night's gig will require the R100(22#)and the PA gear, so 3 trips. Aaaaarrrrgh!

*prn-pro re nata=as the need arises
