Thunderbird Club

A high school friends mother was a DJ at a local rock station in Omaha Nebraska and she would give him stacks of albums that would be sent to the station for airplay. Not sure if they were albums that wouldn't fit their format or just extra's but he would share them with me. One was "The Man Who Sold the World" - with the cartoon art on the cover. ("oh by gingo") No idea who David Bowie was then - but I really liked it. Around that same time Space Oddity came out on the radio. Always been a fan and we play a couple of his songs in my band - always a crowd pleaser. I like horn bands too. :)

A friend worked at a local(Miami)station in the 70s. They'd get sent all kinda of albums that didn't fit their format-easy listening/Great American songbook. He gave me an album from a group called "FUSE". 3 of the members were: Rick Nielsen, Tom Peterson, and Bun E. Carlos. Yup. 3/4 of Cheap Trick.
Edit to add: Nielsen was mostly on keys!

I know, I'm weird. Still have long hair, Cinderella is still my favorite band, you'll catch me cranking Ratt at any time, I love swirl painted guitars, pointy headstocks and bright neon colors. I keep hoping this crap comes back in style soon so I'll be cool again. :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Early rock styles from the 60s and 70s are still some of my most favorite. but there's music from every era and almost every style that I like. Well, within the realm of "rock" (defined loosely). Clothing styles I'm pickier about. I still love bell bottoms and loathe high-waisted pants. And white folk disco fashion (and most music)? <shudder>

I watch some older movies and see the men's waistbands above their belly buttons. Looks silly.

Yeah, TBH I'm pretty eclectic as well. My wheelhouse will always be the hair band stuff, but I tend to listen to just about everything from Eminem and Taylor Swift to Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5 to Linkin Park and Seether to Jason Aldean and Dierks Bentley. My wife says my shuffle looks ********. :roflmao:  :roflmao:

These are the LP's that make the record swap rounds and are bought up by 'those who know'. I read in MOJO that the soundtrack for the Poseidon Adventure was worth thousands of dollars for some reason...

I worked at WREK (Ga Tech student station) in the 74-75 time frame. We got two copies of most things (exceptions: the band was huge or the label was small (exception: new direction for a famous band)). The music director got first dibs on the extra, then station management, then the rest of us (unless they were contest prizes). If the station wasn't going to use the album, same thing for the other copy. One of my housemates and I got some great stuff that way, including the first two Rush albums, Kansas's third album, etc.

Never seen the cartoon sleeve art in the flesh. Only ever seen the 'not safe for the USA' version.

One of the funniest things is the 40s "Batman" serials. His uniform includes shorts that go up almost to around his sternum.
I watched that season premier of "The Voice" and there was this young girl on there that had jeans that almost came up to her breasts, no joke. I can't recall the last time I saw a waistband that high! But she was rockin' it, so good for her!

It all depends on ones ability to pull it off with style -

I was beside myself when I heard a song by some pop-tart and thought "hey, that's not bad" only to find out it was Taylor Swift.
