OK, full disclosure-at the risk of incurring wrath.:bag: I'm not a Bowie fan-like some of his songs, never 'got with' his voice. I have no beef with those who like him, just not my cuppa. I'm sure some of my likes aren't the norm [NORM!], such as my affinity for "horn bands"-Ambergris, BS&T, Chase, Chicago, EWF, Pig Iron, 10 Wheel Drive, an all female band called Isis(unfortunate name choice-fine at the time), and a potful of others I can't think of at the moment. If Sirius/XM ever put on an all horn band channel, I'd be locked into it.

No wrath from me, an unabashed Bowie fan. You like what you like. It’s all good. I love his voice. And frankly, I prefer his to that of the other David Jones who had a few hits back in the day. I’m also huge on Neil Young, the Boss, Tweedy, Brian Aubert and others with voices that many say are an acquired taste. I’ve taken plenty of flack from those who don’t care for them. Doesn’t bother me at all.

Poppycock indeed!
It comes from years of playing without a drummer and a few years of playing upright in an old school country band with no drummer did not help break me of the habit.
I tend to slap the strings against the fingerboard (with fingers, not thumb) wherever the snare hit usually is.
Usually it blends in. Depending on the tune/genre, I sometimes have to concentrate to not do it.
I like to spend a little of my time, when I do pick it up, trying to play without the "string hits" to keep my time. It's alarming how much of a challenge it can be!

Well, you do. So, there's a start.
I know, I'm weird. Still have long hair, Cinderella is still my favorite band, you'll catch me cranking Ratt at any time, I love swirl painted guitars, pointy headstocks and bright neon colors. I keep hoping this crap comes back in style soon so I'll be cool again. :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Hey, it's all good @GonePlaid. I too never liked Bowie. I get a lot of grief because I STILL listen to 80s/90s hair bands. Right now in my truck cd player is a Killer Dwarves cd. Who still listens to that?!?!?! :roflmao:  :roflmao:

The older I get, the less I give a f&@k!

What about those of us that stopped caring about hurting others feelings around age 20?

I like less about half of Bowie. The popular stuff is really good, but the rest I feel intensely indifferent about.

Zappa on the other hand was a genius. I like a lot of his stuff and there is also a lot that I just don't understand (I think I don't understand it, or maybe I do and it isn't very good).

Killer Dwarfs!? I saw those guys back in the day. The singers big stage move was rolling across the stage.

They are touring I think.

Love the video for all the sites around Toronto (from the time I lived there)

Gotcha! I listen to Hair Nation, Ozzy's Boneyard, and Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius/XM. Always crank it up for Cinderella, Def Leppard, Ratt, Winger, et al., in addition to the Horn Bands.

A high school friends mother was a DJ at a local rock station in Omaha Nebraska and she would give him stacks of albums that would be sent to the station for airplay. Not sure if they were albums that wouldn't fit their format or just extra's but he would share them with me. One was "The Man Who Sold the World" - with the cartoon art on the cover. ("oh by jingo") No idea who David Bowie was then - but I really liked it. Around that same time Space Oddity came out on the radio. Always been a fan and we play a couple of his songs in my band - always a crowd pleaser. I like horn bands too. :)

I'm a sucker for a rockin' band with horns. Or cello or violin. Flute. Occasionally oboe. Any recommendations for a hard rock band (or metal!) with a harp? I'll try anything musical once.

Nothing on a harp, but there's always "Off Kilter". A Celtic rock band with bagpiper/singer.

Bowie was always hit or miss for me. Love a few things, find a few more seem meh, and I couldn't care less about other songs. But the guy was brilliant. And I will be forever grateful for the part he played in helping other people on their way, such as Stevie Ray.

Not 'hard rock band' but Alice Coltrane comes to mind when talking harp.
