Since economic efficiency demands that resource levels are "Just Enough" and timing is "Just In Time"; doesn't take much for the wheels to fly off the apple cart.

If social distancing is practiced correctly the peak numbers will flatten but the duration will lengthen. Feeling a bit like an Inca this morning darwin.jpg . My guess is that a hot humid Summer will slow it down however next Fall could be the darkest hour. If a musician plays a song and no one is there to hear it, my GF is still right.

Gig tonite(w/ sub drummer)went pretty well. Attendance was about 1/2 what it normally would be for a St. Patrick's day dinner/dance at a Knights of Columbus, but a good time was had by all.
We have an afternoon gig Wednesday that's on hold for now. I expect it to be cancelled, but ya never know.
EVERYTHING is getting cancelled in my neck of the woods. EVERYTHING

Just heard last night my St Patrick’s day gig got cancelled.

We plan to eat out just as much as ever, if not more, in part to support our favorite restaurants and servers. They're all pretty savvy, and we're taking reasonable precautions (as we do every flu season).
I know some churches are cancelling services, going to livestream services or parking lot services, etc. Ours and the one I'm helping at both plan to have services tomorrow (expecting reduced attendance) so I'll be playing bass and having a blast.

We have only eaten at independent places the past week. The big buys can ride this out. The smaller places will be the ones to suffer IMO. Went to a Thai place Friday that is usually a long wait for. Tons of open tables. They did a steady amount of pick up/take out orders but the dining room never had more than 4 tables in use. They owner thanked us for coming out and said they had been very slow.

Across the parking lot is a pretty popular sports bar that is packed Thur - Sunday. Plenty of parking and no one waiting in line.

Father-in-Law took us to a Mexican place last night at 6:30. No wait time at all.

Keep Cups are Coronavirus issues it seems. Cafe near work now refusing to fill them due to Coronavirus advice, after being big supporters of the scheme.
I’m Not sure of the details why.

The Starbucks*** I stop at on the way to work put up a sign a couple weeks back that they were not using the refillable cups until further notice. They recently started stripping most of the paper sleeve off the straws to put in your drink for you. I'm watching to see how long they keep that up.

***I KNOW Starbucks isn't the best. It's the best option available to me at 4 AM driving to the office.***

Interesting TBird-involved family moment yesterday.
Went over to visit my youngest brother and brought some gear over. My bro is a happy father of 2 boys (9 and 11), who have some musical inclination. He bought them a cheap small used drum kit after xmas and the eldest is showing more than a passing interest. Father and son have been rehearsing Keep your hands to yourself for a while and I added TBird-fueled bottom-end to it yesterday. The kid was playing with a bass player for the 1st time and really liked the sound and looks of it. We explained to him that tons of bands work this way: guitar, bass and drums only so he felt he was part of something. His father (my bro) plays guitar and sings and fronted an alt-metal band in the 90s, did a couple of CDs and a few memorable shows, including one opening for a then-well known Quebec act in front of 800 enthousiasts (my other brother, who used to be a drummer before arthritis came in and I were part of the security crew that night). He's a hell of frontman, real good at interacting with a crowd. He put music aside in 2008 (except for a reunion gig 4 years ago), but is slowly getting back into it by setting himself up with a home studio and hoping the 2 boys get hooked (and it's ok if they don't). The eldest obviously is and will get drumming lessons starting next month.

EDIT: That bass will be linked to those 2 forever. That's the brother who was with me when I picked up the bass back in December.

Not so sure. I passed by my local brewery today to pick up some cans for home and there was a line out the door for the tap room. I think that's because of the new rule in NY. No gatherings with over 500 people, and fewer than 500 can only be at 50% capacity, hence the line. So I think they'll be fine.

I’m glad it’s going well for you guys there. Here near “ground zero” we’ve had a record 50+ restaurants close over the last week and a half and most of those have shut the doors for good. They anticipate many more closing and the number of “out of business” signs harkens back to 2008. I work in the restaurant design field and I personally know a lot of these operators. We are easily pushing 100,000 people who have now lost their job. I’m literally concerned about holding on to my house we just purchased less than a year ago. It took me 12 years to recover from the last financial storm. We lost our house, our family business and every drop of savings we had. Here I am staring face to face with what feels like the same monster.

Nice! Love it when the music gene boomerangs.

Really sorry to hear about that. I hope help comes soon.
