Thunderbird Club

:woot:Actually the normality of perpetual randomness within this thread makes all unrelated things related.

That right there is quote worthy;)

There was (maybe still is) a company in KC by the name "Related Products" - I thought that was a great name because you could be handling/selling pretty much anything, :D

Nice! Love it when the music gene boomerangs.

It all started with my mother, who played accordeon (she passed in '97). As a kid, that thing mesmerized me, it was old and battered and held together with tape, but she made it sound good. I started playing guitar around 13 y.o., then my 2 brothers got into it. Decades later, my then 18-y.o. daughter asked me to teach her basic guitar stuff and she took off from there and sings real well, although only to a chosen few. My niece plays piano an now this one bangs on. Most of my immediate family dabbles, in one way or another, makes for fun parties sometimes.

I’m glad it’s going well for you guys there. Here near “ground zero” we’ve had a record 50+ restaurants close over the last week and a half and most of those have shut the doors for good. They anticipate many more closing and the number of “out of business” signs harkens back to 2008. I work in the restaurant design field and I personally know a lot of these operators. We are easily pushing 100,000 people who have now lost their job. I’m literally concerned about holding on to my house we just purchased less than a year ago. It took me 12 years to recover from the last financial storm. We lost our house, our family business and every drop of savings we had. Here I am staring face to face with what feels like the same monster.

Awful.
Hope things turn out better this time.

Really sorry to hear about that. I hope help comes soon.

I’m equally concerned about this current situation spreading to other parts of the Country. Hopefully none of you have to deal with what we are seeing here.

I just bailed on mine. We have vulnerability issues at home.

All gigs are off for a while. Some of my cronies may have to be annoyed though I can't figure it. This thing is a ninja, and deadly with the "right circumstance".

It’s still too cold here, but I can see how some impromptu outdoor playing might be in order in the next few months.

If you have someone vulnerable, you are just being responsible by bailing. If someone doesn’t get that, it’s their problem.

Interesting TBird-involved family moment yesterday.
Went over to visit my youngest brother and brought some gear over. My bro is a happy father of 2 boys (9 and 11), who have some musical inclination. He bought them a cheap small used drum kit after xmas and the eldest is showing more than a passing interest. Father and son have been rehearsing Keep your hands to yourself for a while and I added TBird-fueled bottom-end to it yesterday. The kid was playing with a bass player for the 1st time and really liked the sound and looks of it. We explained to him that tons of bands work this way: guitar, bass and drums only so he felt he was part of something. His father (my bro) plays guitar and sings and fronted an alt-metal band in the 90s, did a couple of CDs and a few memorable shows, including one opening for a then-well known Quebec act in front of 800 enthousiasts (my other brother, who used to be a drummer before arthritis came in and I were part of the security crew that night). He's a hell of frontman, real good at interacting with a crowd. He put music aside in 2008 (except for a reunion gig 4 years ago), but is slowly getting back into it by setting himself up with a home studio and hoping the 2 boys get hooked (and it's ok if they don't). The eldest obviously is and will get drumming lessons starting next month.

Awesome! It is really cool to play with family.

I can’t like that, but feel for you. Hopefully this won’t impact you that hard.

it really is, my mom was a piano teacher and started lessons with her at six. my brother writes film scores (Avatar, Gladiator, Samsara among others) down in LA and sister (mezzo soprano at the SF Conservatory) have made excellent careers out of music all thanks to her. when bass became my thing, I spent countless hours playing (along with her on piano) Beatles (and other) scores in the living room. I used the modified stereo as a bass amp at the time.......Great times! Thanx MOM!!!!

It's become a test of our humanity/compassion for those we love and our responsibility as part of the whole. No time for libertarian selfishness. We are all in this world together.

WTH, just because...

We have only eaten at independent places the past week. The big buys can ride this out. The smaller places will be the ones to suffer IMO. Went to a Thai place Friday that is usually a long wait for. Tons of open tables. They did a steady amount of pick up/take out orders but the dining room never had more than 4 tables in use. They owner thanked us for coming out and said they had been very slow.

Across the parking lot is a pretty popular sports bar that is packed Thur - Sunday. Plenty of parking and no one waiting in line.

Father-in-Law took us to a Mexican place last night at 6:30. No wait time at all.

The Starbucks*** I stop at on the way to work put up a sign a couple weeks back that they were not using the refillable cups until further notice. They recently started stripping most of the paper sleeve off the straws to put in your drink for you. I'm watching to see how long they keep that up.

***I KNOW Starbucks isn't the best. It's the best option available to me at 4 AM driving to the office.***

yes. Our favorites are all locals. Technically Chuys has become a nation-wide chain, but we have been eating there since there were 6 in Texas and that was it. They started here and still feel local. All their employees need their jobs. And many of them have become like family.

I love their Creamy Jalapeño Salsa - it is the stuff of legends! I’m in Corpus Christi and we got our first Chuy’s a couple of years ago; but honestly if they would have just opened up a drive thru Creamy Jalapeño Salsa joint, then I would frequent that as much as I do Chuy’s.

In the shed today with my ‘12/‘13 NR. I so love this bird. The seller put new Slinkys on it (Nickel Rounds) and they’ve reached that magical point where they feel and sound so nice. I know from experience with them on other basses that they won’t stay like this for very long. But man they sound so great today through the little Marshall with the tube preamp.

We have two, each equidistant from the house, about three miles. They do great business and feels local even though it’s a chain. Much better than that other grilled pollo place with the drive thru window for not much more. A favorite with us too.
