I considered just buying another ring and stacking them, but I don't know which ring to get. So what's the consensus among my Bird Brothers?
the spacer is thicker than another ring. Whether or not a second ring will work, depends upon how much height you need.
I have a spacer. but for my Lollars, a second ring would have been fine. They are so very high output, I don't need them raised close to the strings.

The serial number looks like the bass started out burst, then got resprayed white with the serial masked off. The back of the neck looks like it's a slightly different color, too. Maybe that's lighting, but back of the headstock sure looks odd. It's a good price, though. Maybe it has been repaired.
Unless they used both kinds of tuners early on, I think that's a later version with the tuners now being used. (See examples below.)

As I recall that's what all their warranty/second ss# labels look like. But you may indeed be right.
Looks like the guy worked in a garage and didn't wash his hands before playing.
I do like that the FB is darker.

I didn't know they ever made labels like that. If it's a second label, then that would also explain the lower price. It's probably worth making them an offer.

That red bass is an absolute knock out. It made me think good and hard about what color the Flamingo really should be.
I'm needing some help. I just got a non-reverse Mike Lull T-5 and I need to get a stand for it that is long enough. I have a Hercules stand and the nuts that hold the leg braces are right where the bass hangs - and I really don't want to scratch up the finish. I have an extremely high-tech piece of bubble wrap around that area but would rather have something that fits. Any suggestions?

<correction> - that would be a REVERSE Thunderbird. Standard tripod stands work better imo. just gotta be careful to adjust the bottom fork accordingly and make sure the foam rubber sleeves are not old and dried up.

Interesting. I use Hercules stands for all of my basses, guitars, ukuleles and microphones. I've never seen a Hercules stand that looked like yours. I can't even find it on their website. I wonder if you managed to get a counterfeit one. It should look like this...

So your stand does not have the fully padded front legs? That's odd.
Look through their website, I didn't see any stands that had completely exposed bolts on the front legs. If they have such a beast it would be a colossal design failure.
and/or discontinued.....probably originally intended for guitars...
It sure would be discontinued in my household, right straight to the trash. I've been using their stands exclusively since around 2008ish and don't recall seeing any instrument killers like what's supporting that beautiful Mike Lull bird.
