I am glad that it is going to a good home. But I am a little confused by your "right" number of basses being 3?? That is just crazy talk!!!

It's just the basses I actually take off the wall and play. The other's just turned into wall art.

So the two I'm still looking to unload would be the Studio V and the Short Scale. No hurry... if the right buyer presents himself, they'll get sold. If not... I keep 'em.

I kinda like this one but I suspect the SS would be a tad tight for me, when I asked this knuckle head what the Nut Width & SS at bridge was,he said "unknown why is that important?" Oh no special reason, can't read a tape eh?? DOH

SS has only been an issue once for me, and that was on a MMSR 5er. I adjusted but it felt odd for a several weeks. On 4s I never worry about it. At least not yet.

Of the 4 i have, one's gotta go. But not because i've to many. It doesn't keep up with the rest.

Reducing the flock also opens me up to buying another to try and see if I play it or it too becomes wall art. Seems silly to invest in another bass when I have some hanging on the wall not getting played. That's my thoughts on the collection at this point. At one time I had the TV Silver and the Goth. Nice basses but they achieved wall art status.

I wish I could help you with the Short Scale, but right now it isn't an option.

I worked my way thru playing 3 basses last night. This week I have been cycling thru more of them. I have several that have not been played in a while so taking stock of which are truly important and which will fly the coop later. This isn't a time to sell tho so I have time to mull things over.

Right on point with the MM SR5er , I'm having the same battle with a G&L M2500 although I'm getting better with it! And yes not such a big issue with 4 bangers as it is with 5's. In my defense, I never was such a stickler about these things until I started hanging around here SO I blame it on You Guys

You may want to see if it's "twisted". I had that happen to my once on my VP as I was stringing it up and the result was a dead sounding E string.

Just loosen the tuning key enough to give the ball end some slack to see if it rights itself.

I wish I could help you with the Short Scale, but right now it isn't an option.

I worked my way thru playing 3 basses last night. This week I have been cycling thru more of them. I have several that have not been played in a while so taking stock of which are truly important and which will fly the coop later. This isn't a time to sell tho so I have time to mull things over.

At one point I had eight Thunderbirds at one time and I found myself cycling through them as well just to spend time with them and dust them off. That's when I realized that I really do have a preferences to the sound and feel of certain basses in the collection so I started the cull and simplified my life and I find I'm much happier going to my favorite basses and not worrying about spending time with the others. Eliminating the "others" just became the logical choice in the end and because I don't need to sell, it's not a fire sale and I can wait for the right buyer.

Are those Gibson's specs? Zero fret? LP pickguard with no screws?

LOL - if my 2015 bird has a zero fret I can't see it, on second thought maybe that's why I can't see it.

I've had that happen numerous times, it's either the E or G that are DOA.

I use DR strings on a lot of my basses. The one thing DR strings demand that many others don't is that you must put a 90 degree kink in the string before you cut it to length. If you don't do that, and just clip the string without a kink, the outer windings will sometimes loosen and the result will be a dead string. I've had that issue with Black Beauties before.

2015 funky

That's one thing that my 2015 does better than my other birds, that burpy funk that I normally associate with Jazz. The coil taps allow you to switch from Humbucker mode to single coil mode on each pup so you can in essence get that burpy jazz sound. Much harder to do on my other birds, easy peasy on my FrankenGoth as well, which also has coil tap capability. That said, for every minute my 2015 is in single coil mode it's in humbucker mode for hours first.

Guess I'm fortunate (or can't hear), but I don't recall getting but maybe one bad string over the years. Did get one of those extra thuddy GHS Precision flats E strings in one set early on.
