It's funny how Greco seemed to jam the Thunderbird logo on the pickguard all the way into the corner of it, at least compared to Gibsons. Nobody puts Birdy in a corner!

The short version is there were what seemed to be very good reasons. Most of which worked out more to her advantage than mine.

Tried the GHS Precision Flats on the Gibson today. I'm either getting better at EQing it or getting more used to the sound, but it sounded better than anything. The GHS RC Boomers might have the best outcome. I'm interested in the TI Flats again and rolling the highs off the via the tone knob. I'm thinking they will provide less boom, and a lot of mids. I just need to tame the top clank. But I'm so used to having the tone wide open that I don't think I even tried that. Anyway, it did sound better, so I'm hopping I going in the right direction headed to a good destination. I hope so, as I sure love playing it.
Just from my experience, i don't hear the TI's as ever being boomy sounding.
They are very rich in the mids, and you'll be surprised how bright a fresh set sounds.
An expensive en devour into the world of flats, and not for everybody.

Very true. I think you are certainty right about taming the big, somewhat hollow lows on the Gibson. I've got a couple used sets here and that was my first try, but the highs were clanky and everything seemed kind of on dimensional, which I found odd for TIs. I now know you can use the tone knob
facepalm instead of leaving it rolled all the way off. The Gibson I found taking some of the highs off helps thicken the tone more than with most of my basses. So, knowing what I know now, I might go with TIs again and intelligently tweak the EQ. My problem is I'm not having much time to fool with various EQ options while briefly practicing just before playing.
Realizing this is a mostly string discussion, I offer this: I've been playing my 67 NR through a variety of amps since 1973. I've recently(past 4 1/2 years) gone exclusively with 7ender Rumbles. They hafta be EQd completely differently from everything I've used before, plus, since changing to EB Cobalt Flats*, I gots to EQ the 'Bird differently. And each room is different. Last night's room felt boomy/muddy to me. I hadn't noticed that the 2 previous times we played there. But. I had my amp (R100)farther back in the corner than usual and I think I was getting some unwanted lo-freq reflections.
