Thunderbird Club

Actually, that happened in my neighbourhood. Less than 1km from home... (That's less than 3/4 of a mile).

There has been something going on with that crime family of late. Something about the Rizzuto crime family in Montreal no longer offering their protection. One of them was gunned down in front of his house about 5km away (3mi) about a year ago. I think there was also one near the University in Hamilton (which is a very nice neighbourhood) in the last couple of years. Fortunately (?) the mob are considerate (?) with their hits in that there is rarely collateral damage to civilians.
Geezzz. That's close to home. But as you say, the mob tends to be very careful and not cause collateral damage. Unlike our gangs in the states, who get mad at one person will shoot up the whole house, car or swimming party indiscriminately. It certainly says something when the mob seems to have more morals and value for life?

Wait... Are you suggesting I am a crime boss?

I'm a lot of things. Bass player, Thunderbird player, watermelon enthusiast. But my "crimes" are more of the moving violation type. Although tax evasion is always really tempting...
Well you were kind of not checking in for a while. Glad you weren't hurt as the target--and hopefully you weren't fulfilling "contractual" obligations, Mr PillO, Sir. And I really don't really live in Kentucky. Just in case that whole pharmaceutical thing is a paper business and the watermelon disguises are for something a little less humorous! Mr PillO, Sir.

I think I might have to do some shielding on the 06 Gibson. I was noticing yesterday I was getting some hum/buzz with both pickups on (which seems weird, but maybe that makes both of them non-humbucking!). Seems to be the bridge pickup for whatever reason. Maybe some shielding will help if it becomes annoying. Fortunately it was only noticeable to me in between songs, but I never noticed it before. May not happen again, hopefully. It looks like you did a nice job with yours!

Thanks guys! Ill report back once its done. I found Alex on Instagram. His prices are reasonable ($160 a pickup and that includes rings), and he can do some custom options. The soundclips I've heard of some of the custom bass builds he's been a part of sounded great, but there isn't much out there for Thunderbirds. I'll try to do an Instagram video and share it once its back.

Cheers!
Dave

So I got the bass back from my tech last week with the new Avedissian pickups and all I can say is wow! I don't have another set to compare them too (SD, Lollar, etc) but they are a major improvement! So is the Hipshot bridge. Picture incoming...

Oh, the gangs here do the same shoot at passing cars, shoot up houses etc. But the mob are more polite (?) in their killing - they make an effort to avoid civilian casualties.

My Pro-V has noticeable noise. It was always there but it is either worse or I am more irritated by it. I think the final solution will be:
1. Refinish. Perhaps to Burgundy Mist Metallic.
2. Because the pickups are a slightly different size from standard thunderbird pickups, put in passive humbuckers (with routing as needed in the refinish).

Still working on what pickups.

.… Sterling St. Vincent guitar with all guitar hardware has Chinese Thunderbird style bass neck now .... needs a bass bringe...(and a bridge cover) ... bass pickups too...

That’s going to amazing when you finish it. I can’t believe they don’t make a bass version already, if there was ever a body style that’d look cool with a matching bass and guitar on stage together...

Thanks! It wasn't as difficult as I was anticipating. Just time consuming. Pretty sure my noise was/is coming from the pre-amp. So I tried shielding that too. Hopefully the buzz will be gone

The first RD I saw in 1979 had horrible noise issues. I helped the owner shield the control cavity and did everything else I was comfortable doing that wouldn't obviously void the warranty (worked on grounds, checked connectors, etc.) Nothing helped. This was after he tried several times to get help from the dealer. "They just do that." Indeed his did. Never knew if it was noisy components, bad board layout or soldering, or what.

Hopefully yours isn't like that!

There she is!! I love the way Thunderbirds look with the pickup rings.
