Thunderbird Club

this may not work for everyone, but is a game-changer for me.
dramatically reduced dive and lean forward, plus, as it moves the instrument across to your right, the left hand reach becomes easier.
I am not advocating drilling anything vintage or collectable, but you can gaffa or duct tape your strap in that position to try it first.
I would be interested to know

But my belly fits in the belly cut! Seriously I could see that working. I think the Dingwall Bird has the rear strap location on the back, maybe not quite as far forward.
I have long simian arms, so reach isn’t an issue.

I have the strap buttons in the same (or close) position on my Status-necked Bird. I had planned to move them but so far I cannot complain about the functionality at all. It does provide a comfortable reach that I wouldn't have thought possible with the button positions.

I think Roger had moved his to this position about a year ago and was pleased with the result. But he doesn't come around much anymore so we can't ask.

I think @Count Bassie did something like this.

and after the much discussed Hipshot/Gibby due diligence....

Looks great!

My newer Gibson came with DR Black Beauties and I just couldn't get over not seeing the normal silverish color strings. I didn't care for how the BBs felt either. I might have to give them another try now that I'm getting it to sound really good. This makes more want to put them back on. I sure love the clear PG. I really like my Hipshot bridge as well.

If you like the sound of Black Beauties but miss that familiar silver color, just order a set of DR Silver Stars. I think they are the same as Black Beauties in every way except color.

Thanks! yeah, wanted something a little more modern sounding for some up and coming recording. I like the modern pickups in a modern context and adding the bonus of mahogany is a great plus. I slapped the HS (almost gave it away a month or so ago) on cause I couldn’t find the original black three point and because I want to try some different strings with the modern humbuckers so string replacements are quicker and more straightforward. that first set is LaBellas and I’m really eager to try it out tomorrow... :hyper:

Hey, just saw this... I've done something similar, moving a strap button from the bottom of ther bass up to a spot into the belly curve. It's worked with Fender style basses, but I found that on a Thunderbird, just leaving the strap button in it's original spot but arranging the strap over the front of that long lower bout really kinda does the trick.
The top button placed behind the neck also helps. The ergos of the T-bird are very different than the Fender shape, and after some time spent I found myself feeling less awkward and having come to terms with it. Now it's the most comfortable of my three basses.
Anyhow, try the lower strap button in the original place, and put the strap over the front. I got that from @JIO...
