If you're talking about a transparent pickguard, just wanted to make sure you're aware that your Thunderbird has a routing cutout underneath the pickguard.

Working at home has it's advantages--and disadvantages!

I think you'll like the Cobalts. They've sounded really good on a VP and modern Gibson. I've had less success with the GHS Balanced Nickles thus far, but have yet to try them on the modern Gibson.
Thanks Dagrev, I decided to go with the Cobalt flats when I left my Thunderbird with the tech this afternoon. I also went over the possible causes of the twangy buzz that folks here suggested. I am more than ready for him to call and say she is good to go and to come pick her up! I was hesitant about the Nickels. While they sound great on my American 5string Jazz, I was less convinced they would work as well on the bird.
As this will only be my second experience with flats, I am anxious to hear how they sound. They have sounded great on my Jack Casady so am optimistic about them on the bird.
Have a great evening.

Yup, what can I say, I always liked to "peak under the dress":woot:

Yup tried them and other brands/types with "clear coating" and never heard/felt a noticable difference, the tapered core also adds different dynamics even when compared to other TC's i.e. Dingwall & Ken Smith THEY ARE THE BOMB:bassist:
Taper does make the E come alive. I love the old Fender taper/exposed core NPS--then they changed--and never redid the formula when people complained and stopped buying them. GHS Progressives are nice. I would love to try the BB tapers, but I'm pretty sure Heavy would not set well with me. Mediums are as high as I go.

My 1st TBird should be here tomorrow...finally. It feels like forever since I chimed in and told ya’ll I bought one.

We want pictures - I add you to the club, good Sir :)

Too bad they now sound like this...

It's easy to slag on Vince, but I really like his version of this.......Takes it away from being horseback ridin' music rather nicely.
