Yeah, I'd been pricing that stuff. The 45+/- gigs we've lost since March woulda paid for all of it rather nicely.:banghead:

Typical life in the rhythm section… and how often has anybody got to see Keith take a smoke and Ron take a drink? It's like catching a double rainbow in the wild.

Good morning and happy Tuesday everyone. I am back in the saddle, or rather the dining room chair in the spare bedroom that has become my office. My little Ashdown amp came home last week and I am glad to have her back. Somewhat less hiss, and a little more understanding of its source. My new strings arrived yesterday and my Thunderbird is going to the tech today. I appreciate all the suggestions I have received here, both about the amp, and twangy buzz on the bird. Hoping to spend a little time with the tech and get that solved. Likely going with the Cobalt flats. Thanks again for all your suggestions brothers and sisters. I will post again when I get her back. Have a great day everyone.

Those mods that you made turned out fantastic. That's a great pic of it and really shows it off well. That bass is simply HOT!

Working at home has it's advantages--and disadvantages!

I think you'll like the Cobalts. They've sounded really good on a VP and modern Gibson. I've had less success with the GHS Balanced Nickles thus far, but have yet to try them on the modern Gibson.

Tapes or Black Beauties? And, how are they working for you? I recently put the Dr BBs back on that my 06 came with. Sounded really good Sunday. Really good.

DR BB Tapered Heavies!! IMHO made for TBirds!! I will never use anything else!! They are AWESOME as many Good Brothers around here will attest to!! The only drag is they don't make em for 5 Bangers :banghead:

They do sound really good. As I mentioned a few pages back, sound with with fingers or pick, both PUs or just neck. Feel a little odd, but I can live with it since they sound so good, and hopefully that will die down a little.

Ever try DR Dragon Skins? Same K3 coating per DR but my old set of Skins don't have that feeling. Had them on other basses but not the 06 Gibson. At least not yet.

Yup tried them and other brands/types with "clear coating" and never heard/felt a noticable difference, the tapered core also adds different dynamics even when compared to other TC's i.e. Dingwall & Ken Smith THEY ARE THE BOMB:bassist:
