Sounds like that thing needs a good wipe down with 99% isopropyl!LOL - no no no no, no!
The sound is so perfect right now I'm afraid to do anything to the bass that might effect the mojo.
Heck, I haven't even cleaned the COVID embedded scum off of the tuning keys or pickup cover. The tuning keys are actually downright gross to touch, feels like they were played hard and put away wet, many times. I'm leaving the encrusted chrome that way for now as I work on my herd immunity - what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger, so they say.
The bottom set does look like current Roto ball ends. I have a set of Roto flats, but I'll be dogged if I can find them, so I don't recall about the red silk on the ball ends, but believe they did have that. But the red silks in the first pic seem a little bright for Rotos, but that just may be lighting. But it's likely they are. If they are stiff they are Rotos, if somewhat loose feeling they could be TIs.
As we’re known around here for being open to other nice basses, someone here might consider this. No affiliation of course.

Mauve and teal were thee colours of the '80s - Joni rocked them then - I love this document! All the players were young and in their prime! What it must have been like to be in the audience that summer evening! At 32:49 they play Amelia (Earhart) the famous woman pilot. When I was in grade-school I read a book about her. My dad was a pilot in WWII so I had an affinity for flying.

I was almost positive the black silk strings with colored balls were Roto flats, and it sounds like that's been pretty much confirmed now. The Greco red silk strings aren't nearly as firm as the Roto flats and the silk up at the tuner end is much brighter than the silk at the bridge end. This leads me to believe these might be TI Jazz Flats. If so, they are definitely staying on. My recollection from a P bass I had some on many years ago was that they just continued to get better with age. Sold that bass with 10 year old strings on it probably ten years ago.
I'm a fan of porters/stouts and adding notes of maple bacon and coffee just makes it even better IMO. They only brew it in January so I sorta hoard some each year. Tonight seemed like a good night for some, no particular reason.
After playing along with some recordings of the group I was part of in Miami in the early 80's, I felt like treating myself.

Rick is an amazing person. I love the way he can just casually dissect a song and break it down note by note into all the subtle nuances that make it unique. His mastery of music theory and structure are amazing. Listening to his YouTube clips is both enlightening and humbling at the same time.
As a player who is self taught, struggles to read music and consequently plays pretty much by ear, I'll never be able to converse competently in his language, but just listening to him talk is fascinating. I don't care at all for Joni Mitchell's music but I sure have a deeper appreciation for the complexity and brilliance of it now. Thanks for posting.

Crazy price. I bought one 2 years ago for £650 in UK. Great bass, but that price is ridiculous. I don't own that bass anymore but do have a recently acquired Studio 4 which cost me £650 ($850-900 approx) again. The non-reverse is not a better bass in quality or sound imho.
I noticed on eBay.com a lot of basses that seem to be in Japan are similarly ridiculous prices which seems to be skewing the real market for 2nd hand.
