Thunderbird Club

Made in USA; that's a quality box!
Think I'm gonna keep the box & packing for future shipping needs. These made in USA cardboard boxes are a real find! :roflmao:

Anyone have opinions on these 2016 "T-bird" pickups? Awesome? Paperweights? Meh? Claimed to have come from a (different) Classic Pro.

If they are the same as in mine, I'd say use them. I like mine. Pretty good output and tonal range.

If they're black plastic covers (TB+) out of a Gibson or Epiphone CP, I think they're great. Definitely worth trying, since they're right in front of you.

From a review:

The Thunderbird Classic-IV Pro 34” scale, 20 fret, through-neck construction is a seven piece mahogany and walnut ply, with the body wings made of mahogany, with the neck having the 1960’s rounded profile.

May be more than one version.
I think (and I could be wrong) a few pages back* we determined that at some point, the classic pro went from 7 ply to 9 ply construction.

* Standard disclaimer on number of pages back.

I like the modern Gibson PUPs which are what were in the CPs. Our buddy @dagrev is working on liking them. I sure like them in my ‘13.

It is weird that at some point there were standard Epi PUPs in that one. So maybe the neck broke and someone salvaged the original PUPs and put them in a bolt-on, then fixed the neck and put the standard PUPs in to see how it worked? All interestIng...but your red and chrome bird (like a fire engine) will be amazing!

That could very well be, and you are likely correct. The review was from 2019, but who knows what version they actually reviewed. I don't even know if/when the stopped making them or much about them in general. Looks like GC can back order them, but Epi doesn't mention them.

I'm looking now because I'm curious, not to try to be correct.:) I just want to know. If there was a change, they didn't mention it. If someone finds other information, please mention it.

The GC ad mentioned 7 Ply as well.

I’m recalling prior discussion that someone counted 11 plys in a Gibson. So who knows.

Here's a review....... Some loser posted.
IIRC Epiphone's website stated Classic Pro was 7 ply, my example was painted but it's actually 9 ply like Gibson.

I think (and I could be wrong) that we have established at few pages back* that neither the Gibson nor Epiphone websites can be relied upon for accurate information. Despite specifications changing, website descriptions don't change.

Yep. When the 7ender MIM Mustang PJ came out with its 1.5 nut, the confusion on TB was hilarious because none of the sellers had the correct specs.

I think the spec sheets are wrong.
Here's a pic of a 2013 classic pro IV

Clearly has a 9 ply center block.

Haha. We love that loser.

So I'm guessing that people are using 7 and 9 (If 7 Was 9?) for the same thing. Maybe some aren't counting the wide edges as plies? I have the wide mahogany then walnut-mahogany-walnut-mahogany-walnut-mahogany-walnut then wide mahogany.

it depends where they start and finish counting. :D

Plus or minus the 2 large pieces either side (but not the wings of course)

If 7 turned out to be 9, BADUMP, I don’t mind, BADUMP, I don’t mind...... naw doesn’t really work:)
