Probably finish damage is possible (even if unlikely) and so it is a CYA move. Still, I would take the advice, just in case. Or better, don't use a clip on tuner...
Definitely a CYA move.

Fact is, until nitro has a chance to set a bit it can easily be effected by contact (usually prolonged, not brief) with a number of foam rubbers and other elastomers. The finish and the rubber fuse together. When you remove the nitro coated bass from the rubber object (stand, hanger, clip on tuner...) the finish comes off with it, usually all the way to the wood. As the nitro ages it's less prone to this happening, but can still happen.

I don't use hard cases or gig bags very often for my basses, most are either on a stand or a hanger with plenty of rubber contact, never had a problem, but I exclusively use Hercules products for stands and hangers. Never had a problem with a snark either, might be because I don't have any factory fresh Gibson basses, most of mine were purchased used with the exception of the EB which was 3 year old left over inventory.

For those of you buying on Amazon... I just accidentally saved over 25% on a purchase there. :)

I was looking on line at prices for a Black Hipshot SuperTone bridge, logged in to Amazon and found them priced at $117 including shipping. Not a bad price, but I decided to shop around a bit. So I opened a new window and looked at BestBassGear, they had it for about $130 including shipping. Opened another window at HipShot and found it there for about $130 plus shipping. Went back to the Amazon window and refreshed the screen only to find the price was now listed at $87 including shipping. Needless to say, I purchased it. :wideyed:

I can't explain exactly why the sudden price drop at Amazon, but I do know they use some pretty sophisticated algorithms to set their prices. I wonder if their bots followed my multi site search and automatically dropped their price to be more competitive. Or maybe they saw my multiple hits on that particular product. IDK:thumbsdown:

Whatever the cause, I'm a happy camper. Just got an accidental discount for a part on a bass that I accidentally obtained with a lowball offer. Go figure. :D

Does a Fender Bass VI - TBird Hybrid (aka a Fenderbird VI) count for Thunderbird Thursday?

Persistent tracking. Even after you leave the site, it keeps sending information back on what sites you are visiting. Facebook does the same. It is a "feature" of some browsers as well - sending browsing data back to various parties.

Creepy. Then think - if you are visiting your bank website and checking balances what gets sent back? Then it is very creepy, bordering on criminal creepy (cyber-stalking). There is tracking protection software available. But then you won't get ads for shipping containers if you start looking at commercial shipping sites.

Do you know who the vendor was or did it appear to be Amazon direct?

Some vendors to Amazon will use wholesale prices to enhance that Amazon marketing of their product. And if you are an Amazon Prime Member, shipping can be free on Prime items.

I have found it always is my 1st place to check. And usually I am surprised to find better deals there.

I had an early 80s fender case I stored my '55 Pbass in for a while. Something in the composition of the case softened the finish on the body. Even left an impression of a wipe towel that was touching the body. Changed cases and the finish returned back to normal--with a few new impressions on the back. I recall that was an issue with those cases and some finishes. I think it was the foam fumes as the foam itself was never in contact with the bass.
