Thunderbird Club

I would say this is not directly Thunderbird related, but its honestly not at all. Unless it counts because its in the same room with four (4) Thunderbirds?

Such fun!

When I was looking for an acoustic bass I tried every brand and model I could find. I came to the conclusion that there was a tremendous amount of variability in sound and projection from brand to brand and model to model and to a surprising degree even from bass to bass of the same model. The one thing I did note was the Ibanez and the Breedlove were the two brands that consistently sounded best to my ears. I ended up buying the Breedlove because of the killer deal that I got on it, but have second guessed myself many times wondering if I should have bought the Ibanez.

Enjoy the acoustic journey, it's a whole new world. Different amp settings, feedback watchouts, hi/low pass filters, strings, etc. It's pretty much an entirely different beast from the solid body world, but can be every bit as enjoyable.

For a real treat, consider installing some La Bella Black Tapewounds on her. If you install standard size Tapes you might need to open the bridge peg holes just a tad to allow for the thicker strings, or you can probably install a light gauge set with no mods. The Tapes really thicken up the acoustic tone nicely plugged in or unplugged.

BTW - love that wall chart. I need something big like that so I can see it for a quick reference vs straining at a tiny page in a book while trying to play.

Similarly, I got this Ibanez for a pretty good price; enjoying it so far, with what little time I've spent with it. Like my other two Ibanez basses, the volume needs dialed back, because of the pre-amp. Every thing else I run wide open :jawdrop:

The poster I got from Amazon a year or two back. Bestmusicstuff. com brand. Its great for those of us with glasses ;)

I do have a set of Fender black Tapewounds, but heavy gauge :(

Is it easy to pry out the silver reflector cap inside the modern Gibson control knobs? If it is, does it leave residue or is it clean?

While I haven't tried to pop the inserts out myself, I have seen them missing on control knobs and have not seen any residue left behind. My assumption is that they fell out and went missing so my further assumption is that they come out easily. As with most assumptions, they can either be right or wrong. Good luck.

what model Ibby? Mine is a 10E in black. I like it, 32” scale is very comfortable. It’s the first bass I bought this time around.
For just about anything apart from practicing it does need amplification, and a sound hole block.

There is an Acoustic Bass fetish group on TB

This one's a 10e also, "dark violin sunburst"

She obviously loves you, so I'd say she would appreciate a reminder like that. Could even mention how all of us here think so highly of her for loving you so much and that she has the highest estimation of any wife here at TB. I'm sure she want's to live up to that well earned reputation!

That sounds like the proper approach. I will follow your advice. Lets see how this plays out :roflmao:
