I’ll be 65 in ‘23. I really want Gibson to do something special for the 60th anniversary of the Thunderbird. I’ll be looking for a bit of help when the time comes.

Happy to offer advice when the time comes

Looks like mine, but with a different EQ setup. I think mine is a bit older than yours. I really like it tho. Its very fun to play.

I love it! Never played one as far as I recall--but would love to. Looks great.

Nice!
Mine doesn't have the EQ, just tuner, bass, treble, volume, which I prefer :)

But it is Active (takes a 9v)

For some reason the pic is being stupid.

2nd try!

thank you all.

yes, I like it. It has a good sound to it imo and it suits certain situations. It does have a 9v battery. Really needs to be plugged in.

I bought it locally off gumtree ($200 with stand) as my toe dip into playing the bass. I figured i could postpone buying an amp until I thought I’d be continuing with the hobby. Worked well for that.
now it is on its stand in the rumpus room. I can just grab it for a noodle while I’m watching TV or whatever.

it’s a bass that I don’t think I’ll ever sell.

We are here to enable. And I will be 63 in '23. If Gibson comes out with a faithful '63 Thunderbird II reissue, it will be tough to resist. Especially if there are custom colors. And an official repaired headstock. I am only kinda kidding on that last one.

That's just a handful of dollars (not quite a fistful!) more than I paid for mine
But I didn't get a stand :crying:

It sounds very...acoustic-y? until plugged in, then sounds like a regular electric. (I'm sure the medium-light amp distortion I keep on all the time helps with that  )
Unplugged, it's plenty loud for playing in my apartment.

On a not really related note, my next somewhat-broken Thunderbird is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! :hyper: (today if you're not PDT....)

yeah, I fool around with different plucking styles to get different flavours. Sometimes thumb and forefinger, sometimes using more of the side of the finger to get it a bit more uprighty (in my imagination anyway).

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: Comment of the day, maybe month!

Genius! We all know it's gong to happen, so get it over with.

Not Thunderbird related but because I'm bored my Slade collection. Hiwatt DR201, replica of Jim Lea's John Birch bass, jacket worn onstage and in the movie Flame circa 1975 and Jim's road case.

Happy Thunderbird Thursday to my sisters and brothers. I hope all are staying well. I have been wanting to put together a small light rig for sometime. A guitar picking friend and I keep talking about playing wine tasting rooms or coffee houses once the lockdown ends. I had the little Ashdown repaired, and first tried a Rumble 2X10, but it didn't quite do it, so I swapped it and a pedal for a new little Ampeg cab, and am much happier with the sound. Not quite like its big brother, but has been great fun to experiment with so far. May add a second cab just for fun. Have a great day everyone, the weekend is almost here.
