Thunderbird Club

Maybe we could just help (read enable) you along towards the purchase of a Thunderbird, trust me here, I'm a low talent hack bassist when it comes right down to it - I just happen to really enjoy myself when I get to play, so I say life is too short to not own several Thunderbirds. :)

Just give in to the shapely Sirens calling your name.....

Low talent hack my aardvark. But the advice at the end was good!

V - I never tire of the band videos you post, so many great clips! But this one might be my favorite. You were killin it on bass and the rest of the band was equally hot! As always, the crowd was totally into the music as well. If I'm ever up your way I'll have to hit a show. In the meantime, pass my hugs and kisses on to the rest of the band for a gig well played.
Ditto to all of that!

I was a bit annoyed at the price of a/b boxes (even though I get it). And I knew I’d have to install it upside down on the right side of the board. I was looking for a box and switch to just build my own when I ran across SaturnWorks. $33 out the door. (Not installed, just testing). Now my two birds will both be plugged and ready.

 Not always a bad thing, but not idea. It may or may not have asbestos in it. Hopefully yours didn't. I don't know if one region is more likely have it with asbestos or not. What percentage I think would be anyone's guess. The possibility is good enough reason to consider moving. But as long as not disturbed it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if it keeps expanding decades later and that movement would be problematic or not. Having to do some work would definitely be another matter of concern.
I disturbed it a lot by installing a Jacob’s ladder and flooring in the attic. The next owner apparently sealed off the attic.
I was a commercial telephone/data tech for many years, so I’m sure this was just one of many potential exposures to nasty stuff over the years.

poopie. Dude is better than I am.
Yeah, I almost didn't post it out of humiliation. Showoff kid. Bet he hasn't read as many books as I have. Take that, you little showoff!

Our drummer sent it to me. Maybe hinting there's no reason I can't step up my game since this kid can do it. I've got to find an amazing 3 yr old drummer and send it to him.

Is the "Vintage Pro" significantly better than the "IV" ?
The Epiphone IV is a very good bass especially at its price point. The Epiphone VP is a fantastic bass at its price point and can easily go toe to toe with basses that cost much much more. The VP holds very true to the original Thunderbird sound and has the vintage look as well. If I had $1000 to spend on any new bass on the market, I'd buy the VP and pocket the change. If I only had $500 to spend, I'd look for a used VP and if I couldn't find one I'd buy a new IV and rock it hard.

Yes, if you want a vintage gold standard sound out of a Thunderbird (60s) at a fraction of the cost. If you want it to sound as close to the real thing (which I have), then yes. Some may simply prefer the sound of the IV, and that's just fine. Quality would be good either way. Buyers tend to hang onto VPs. I have two now. If I could only buy have one bass and it not be a 60s Thunderbird, it would be a VP.
