Thunderbird Club

Dropping in for a Thunderbird question... I'm redoing one of my Epi Fenderbirds and want a black pickguard - nobody makes these? WD has them with a hole in them (presumably for guitars with a pickup switch).

How come nobody makes any basic plain ones?

P.s. I have 2 white ones if anyone wants to trade me for a black one.

Have you tried Pickguard Planet?

I got a black one for my 2015 TBird from an eBay seller...

Update: just checked eBay and it looks like the seller I bought from no longer sells them. You might consider contacting this other eBay seller to see if he can make you a black one...

If I recall correctly (and I may not) different years/models have slight variations in shape, size, and screw pattern. You probably need to have one made using your existing one as a template.

Ahem

My third Vintage Pro..All taped up,sanded and ready to go.It could take another month here in Va.before humidity stays consistent at 40% or below before I start with the nitro.

When will they start making brightly colored synthetic fretboards with matching headstocks?

This was the seller @GBassNorth mentioned that some of us bought black ones from for our Gibsons. This was pre-Covid. You might try contacting him and see if he has any info for you. He is in Singapore if I recall and is very reputable.

man, if I had to play one of these for a living I would have a very skinny family lol...to boot, they do away with pretty much the only similarity to the electric bass by tuning A D G C to keep the string tension tauter and hence up the acoustic volume which means you can’t look at what the guitarist is playing when you’re in the weeds...

That was my first idea, but I think it's about the "live tracking" thing, not having opportunity to punch in endlessly, lol. It's also the most like playing live- which is the ethic really.
If you’re punching in endlessly, you don’t know the material!
There is something to be said for getting it done in a continuous take, but I’d much rather track in my music room than my driveway:D

I get lost like that when I’m at a jam and somebody hands me a 5 string!
Looks like a 1/2 size. I’ve got a damaged one in the project pile. I’m going to stick to standard tuning to keep the tension down;)

I'm being funny, or something, there... just staying entertained. The outside, standing by the car thing would be for fun, kind of like drive-thru bass lines.

And so today, we come to the $ad end of the GHS Brite Flats(on the Epi EB-0)experiment. So as to not completely put them down, I will say that the Pelham blue silks were pretty. Didn't like the feel or the sound. First set I've ever tossed as soon as I removed them. Oh, well. LSTYD.
I had a set of D'Addario 1/2 rounds laying around that I took off my LPB2/5 , so I installed the E-A-D-G from those. Much better. Tone and feel.
