Thunderbird Club

Hope all of you are doing well concerning...I've been playing alot of guitar myself trying to be useful.

Anyone here live in the Vegas area? We've been there about 4 times and now seriously considering moving there. Looking for some real perspective. We stayed on Flamingo on the otherside of the freeway from the strip, liked it there. Also over on the other side and in Henderson.

I'd be sorry to see you go, Bryan, but as with all things, you have to do what's right for you and your family.

Curious? If the move happens, what happens to the Wreking Crue? Do they hook up with another bassist or do they fold up? You, Celina and your "crue" seemed to me to be the glue and the force making that project what it is/was?

Its undecided. It's possible to do it long distance, too many unknowns

Well the crabbing season is just about over here on the Chesapeake Bay..
Here’s what I do with the shells every year.Total recycle..the shells that don’t make the grade for painting get crushed and go into the garden to feed tomatoes..I do about 250 or so each season.
They tend sell out quickly to the local folks.
Maybe not as cool as model train painting..but I’m in the game..Cheers!...Oh..also Thunderbirds rule!

Our singers/keyboardist mom lives in Vegas and she's spent time there - I'll get her take on it when we rehearse again. (maybe even as soon as next Sunday! :hyper:)

Vegas right now is hard hit with unemployment, my good friend had planned to move out there right when covid hit. If you have something lined up, go for it, it's a fun place but be wary of trying to find employment with so much of the city out of work. My friend's wife had a nursing admin job lined up for them to go and it fell through, he's a musician so that really went t!ts up. As with anything be careful

I like the sound of that Fano (ok, ok - the guy playing the Fano had a lot to do with it as well). Nice smooth tone, clean clear notes, perfect pick attack, excellent playing. Did you use compression in the recording chain? What pick do you use?

On bass I've always played finger style, but desperately want to get more proficient with a pick. That recording is exactly the pick sound I'm after.
good pick lesson...

Really Nice bass what is it looks European maybe hagstrom?

It's a (US made) '68 Coral Deluxe Bass. The same bass first appeared in the early 60's with a Danelectro badge. Coral bought Dano in '66 and then went under in late '68. Dano was later resurged in the 90's under different management. The Silvertone Hornet (also Dano related) was similar in a few ways.

Mint early '60s Dano - I saw it long after sold on Reverb unfortunately.

knowing you, you have obviously considered buckers on that...why not? no need? resale value?....

Damn.......bassgasm

I really like the lipstick singles sound. It also has to do with where they are positioned, as the neck pu is closer to the neck than a Jazz bass. Bridge pu is in a similar location to a Jazz. And stacked V/T V/T pots. Love both buckers and singles but the lipsticks are very mid-rangy which works for me as a palm-muting pick-player. That and the wider distance between pu's gives a more scooped sound that is signature Dano. You hear it clearly on "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell's bass player. I dial the amp for bass, and the bass delivers the mids. Also for these vintage basses - unless they were parts builds, I restore them to as stock as possible.

I've posted this here before - but it's such a beautiful song it's always worth another listen.

So I am dead set on doing a parts bass from a Rosser body and EMG t-bird passives. My only dilemma is whether to do the non-reversed T-bird or the Meteora. I guess the NRT would be a bit lighter. I do like the curves of the Meteora, but it also looks very "big in the waist." I strap my rig on higher side, so I might be playing with a T-Rex arm on the Meteora. Give me some more reasons why I should do the NRT.

That’s very kind of you to say such nice things, thanks!
I don’t personally use compression live, but I’d be a bit surprised if the engineer who mixed that session didn’t use at least a bit of it. That said, one of the good things about using a pick is that nice ‘pop’ or attack at the front of the note envelope.
As for the type of pick...it’s super personal and feel based, but I’m very fond of the blue Tortex picks. Can’t remember what thickness they are. I use those almost exclusively, but sometimes the slightly thicker purple Tortex work great for me on certain recordings. Fortunately, it’s very cheap to try a bunch of different picks to find what works best for you

The crabbing season has just started chez PillO. I attribute it to not enough daylight and the approach of Xmas.
