Thunderbird Club

Hey @GBassNorth and @D.M.N. Was doing my leisurely looking around and came across this in Chatsworth, local pickup only. I’m not interested, but if one of you guys are looking for a project (or want a PJ), this could be fun...
Epiphone Thunderbird Bass Blue | CSSLA | Reverb
I saw that one. Looked interesting and ptriced right. At one time I thought it would be interesting to drop a a P/J set of Geezer pups in one of these. The problem is I'm getting pretty loaded up on Thunderbirds (if that's even possible). I have just about every flavor I want and am patiently waiting for Eppi or Gibby to deliver something new.
But that Eppi pj bird is tempting, I might not be able to fight the urge.

@Chucky Stiletti,
Looks like you moved all five mid settings down in frequency. Amirite?

Ok, can't resist this golden opportunity to give at least one alternate guess:

Using your experience in dealing with room resonances, you've moved the five mid settings into the range most useful for that, and so probably closer together too.

If the inductance increased a lot more than the resistance then the Q could be greater, for a more surgical effect. This sharpening might be necessary to keep the effect noticeable at lower frequencies and/or to keep them more distinct if they're closer together.

Or, all five could have all been moved to your favorite de-mudding range (and so much closer together). I can imagine someone dedicating the mid settings to suit some distinctive pickup, like the mudbucker.

Lastly, the smaller toroid is likely to be a little quieter.

You have fallen for @Chucky Stiletti 's red herrings. The best clue here is the schematic of tank circuits. But also the SVT (big iron, heavy etc.) gives a clue.

I think it all means that he has bought a Sherman tank to use as a gig-mobile.

Although there is a high probability that I am wrong, my story is much better.

I think his use of the "mad scientist" emoticon, :hyper: , could be revealing.

Only a few exits from you off the 118...

Exactly. I’m not upset about the bass. I just have an extra Lollar pu, bridge and tuners and thought it could be a fun project bass. It’s the fact that I scheduled myself to be in his neighborhood so he wouldn’t have to do anything but hand off the bass and collect some dough. And he was perfectly content to let me sit in my car indefinitely waiting on him to send me his address. I even sent my phone number. A bit beyond inconsiderate if you ask me

List under "wasn't meant to be" - very inconsiderate.

you are both right....custom coil to shift the mid freqs slightly upwards AND reduce the coupling to that honking transformer....

:confused:Dude, Three observations from the mushroom gallery...
1) I'd use the red coil, that gold one looks like it was wound by a drunken monkey.
2) very original idea there to store your hot glue gun sticks in the pots at the bottom and top of the pic.
3) I'd definitely clean that splooge off the three yellow caps before firing the amp up.

Seriously, looks like a fun project. Do you suspect a pretty dramatic change or is this more of a tweak?

was wondering how it would look on a PB..
Kind of a back burner thought for me to look into. I think it might look good on mine with a black logo/suppose it would have to be a sticker... I love my NR. It really is a nice Thunderbird.
Wait. You’re supposed to set a good example.
