Thunderbird Club

Just a bit of Warmoth Wednesday..a little something to look at for the Thunderheads. The arrow head necks haven’t been available for a while but I try to snag them whenever I can.

I used to build one or two a year.

Ditto on the Iceman and the darkwood Explorer looks pretty good !

He used to come into the investment bank I was at once in a while to discuss Grapes for Humanity business. Very nice guy, no pretension, does a lot of charitable work anonymously.

Did u get to talk to him ?

Yes. The black one looks very interesting to me, so I'm hoping to learn more. Maybe a straight on pic as well? :)

It’s one of the early Limited edition custom shop Epiphone Explorer Basses.
I tricked it out with Chinabuckers.CTS pots,Shaller roller bridge like the Gibson’s have.New GB7 tuners and a Hipshot Drop D on the E string.
I put the skull and crossbones sticker on the pickguard because the first owner never removed the Epiphone sticker and it faded that spot. The “inlays” on the neck are stick on’s from creative cuts.I took the selector switch out of the circuit. It’s VVT now..DR black beauty strings..some pirate knobs to finish it out.

This Bass will rock your socks for sure. The Epi platform is quite a value to build on.

I love it. I especially like how you implemented the pickup ring at the neck. Kudos from this Thunderbird fan. And thank you for giving us the low down (no pun intended)!

He has said that he wishes he knew about thunderbirds earlier in his career and that he would have used them. Even though he toured supporting UFO and was friends with Pete Way.

Yeah, but that's knowing of, which isn't the same. Now he's experienced and he knows about them, and knows them. (ahem)

Wouldn't happen if you just used the metric system. But you would have to rename some menu items...

very good. Strangely though, we use the metric system and we call it a Quarter Pounder.

although I tend to do human weight in kilos referencing the equivalent in stones to ‘get’ how big that is.

Some fantastic builds there! I've been looking for an Explorer bass exactly like the the walnut (or is it Rosewood?) one in your second picture. Tell me more about it, and be sure to PM me if it ever goes on the sale block.

I've done a few Warmoth builds as well. Found all their bodies and necks to be top quality but it's easy to run the bill up quick with special woods and features. Here's a Jazz body Precision/Stingray I built. I worked with John East to design a custom stereo preamp that utilized a preEB Stingray clone circuit for the bridge pup with discrete output and tone controls from the neck Split P pup...
