Thunderbird Club

Not sure of others. I’ve had it since 2016 or 2017 and got it new for $99. Same issue regardless of bass, cable or wireless setup. I’ve also seen complaints about the headphone jack switch failing on some Rumbles, including the 25. Anyway, I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of it.
yeah at 99 bucks you can’t beat the value... i tried buying replacement parts (potentiometer) for one and the guy at Fender almost laughed at me....ended up wiring up a generic pot....customer was stoked as he REALLY liked this amp..

Am I remembering correctly when I say that there are some Bird lovers whom also play Acoustic amps, or have in the past? I'm trying to date my newly acquired 140. What a cool amp! I've opened it up to look for any date codes inside and to no avail. All I have is the serial number (8787) and some numbers from the circuit boards. I asked the question in the Acoustic Club as well to see if I can get some guidance. Thanks!:hyper:
Have you chained the channels together yet?...

Cool cool stuff! We’re the 70’s models fitted with 2 piece bridges from the factory? Tempted to get that sunburst II, LOTS of bass at that price....

RAWR! That's the stock factory bridge arrangement.........

I said the same thing of my Mesa D800 / 115 & 112 cab combo rig...but in the long run, I prefer the simplicity and weight of a single combo amp. Not to mention that each component of my Mesa rig (D800 head, 115 cab, 112 cab) was in itself equal to the cost of a 200 or 500 watt Rumble / Ampeg combo...
Long story short, sold the Mesa rig and purchased two of the newly released Ampeg combos, and still have my Rumble 200 which works great w/ my T-Bird VP
I appreciate the Rumbles and what Fender did to shake up the industry. But my TT800 and 4x10 Subway aren’t going anywhere until I can’t play any more. I’m getting my different basses dialed in on it for both channels. It really brings out the best in the Vintage Pro and my modern Thunderbirds. I had so much fun this weekend playing for hours.

I like the little 25. Sounds pretty good for what it is. My next smallest amp is a 60 watt Hartke that I paid $129 for on a close out. I really like it; something about the contour circuit in it that makes it have great tone. But it weighs twice and then some more than the Rumble.

Anyone starting a Mott the Hoople tribute band?

Martin Turner was so disgusted by how Overend treated the Thunderbird Overend loaned to him that he shamed Overend into selling it to him. And that’s how Turner became one of the greatest Thunderbird players ever.

My Rumble 25 had the static issue. Sent it to my fix-it guy, he cleaned some pots and returned it. Problem was still there. Smacked the side once or twice; improved, but present. He was perplexed as he’d heard nothing. Sent it again, he still found nothing. Got it back and it was fine.

Been months. Still fine.
Gremlins.

Not yet, but it’s on the list of things to try with it! Such a cool little amp. I really thought it would be heavier. I love it!
Channel chaining makes that amp stand up and breathe at you. Really a cool thing to set one channel for deep heft and the other for teeth-bearing rasp, then gang them. You'll see.

That Greco II in Japan looks interesting and the price isn't bad.

The Greco in Italy with the road worn refin job is pretty pricey and fairly suspect as well. Frequently a refin on a vintage TBird is associated with a headstock break. Dont know if this one was broke, it's not mentioned. To the best of my knowledge the '77 Greco used a Gibby style three point bridge with a claw tail piece not a vintage TBird two piece. I don't think the tone cap is stock, nor is the wiring. That makes the pots and pup suspect as well. And that bass is all about the pup and it's associated wiring.

Too many unknowns (year, headstock, pups and pots) and non original bits (bridge, tone cap, refin) for my taste. If the seller dropped the price by about a thousand dollars and offered free shipping I might be tempted to take a risk, but not as it stands.

I will say, the road worn refin job looks first rate if you're into that look. Unfortunately, the person taking the photos didn't do his sale any favors. Looks like he placed the bass inside the red lined case so the very cool and creamy aged white took on a pink hue - yuck. It looks like a raw ham steak. The close up pics show the real color and beauty of the bass and refin.

Hey @GBassNorth thanks for looking out man! It's a done deal this Saturday, the guys holding it until then. Super cool man.
So cool! Glad one of our club members was able to score this one. Assuming it's a no issues bass, it's by far the best price I've ever seen on a used VP with case. Great to see it going to a good home. I don't recall, is this you're first VP? If so, you're in for a real treat.

sometimes it’s local interference from something....if I had a dime every time I told someone, “make sure your cellphone is not near the amp”.....

Sounds like that or maybe a bad jack or loose connector. I'd think if it were a loose solder joint it wouldn't get better with moving around...

It will be my first VP. FUNNY, I got my CP by running into it at a local GC, send some phone pix to the club and you crew hooked me up with the info...
Anyway pretty psyched, I'll definitely post pix to make sure it actually happened!

Two 'Birds, and I'm not even stoned...

Thanks again man.

This club is full of this particular knowledge of these beasties. I wish I had pictures of the one I almost bought 40 years ago, just so I could find out what it was...

(It's probably better I don't know...)
