More than anything, I am just looking to vent. Playing music is a major source of relaxation for me after a hard day. I am now being denied that and I can see I'll be waiting quite some time for repairs. It is also messing me up for exercise. The lake is nearly warm enough to go paddling. But now I can't.

Worse, I still can't play. I do not have enough grip strength to fret a note. Neurologist consult isn't scheduled until the end of May; I am working on getting that moved up. But there will be an MRI at a minimum adding a couple of weeks and then probably a month or two wait for plastic surgery. So playing bass and kayaking are really getting screwed up this summer...

I s'pose a small trolling motor would kinda defeat the purpose.

Totally hear you. I go up at 4:00, shut the door and play through a few songs until 5:00 or so. Clears the mind.

I ran the info from Matt Helm by my guy yesterday. They aren’t coming this month. Here is his reply:

“They are releasing on 6/29 as I’d mentioned. That is incorrect.”

Ok I as I mentioned have two
The spider out of the box sounds great I have posted a few play along videos with everything from, rock to a jazzy Christmas song the tone is good the build quality is good and mine was setup well. I had mentioned in a post here that I am a big fan of Gibson and Epi and this bass can hold its own. I had read someone said the pickups were weak, I did not have that issue. Check out my videos if you want, I will be gigging this bass first chance I get. Good luck with your decision.

I guess I didn’t like the part where they change the prices in their website 3 times a day based on sales.

when I see the red spider go below $200 again, I’m getting it.

As it turns out, this sort of thing is a problem....

....so, I decided to fix it. :rollno:

Which, of course, didn't go like I wanted - before I even really started, that other wire/solder joint just popped off the pot casing. :banghead:
Just so happens, that's the bridge ground :bored:

Then, I decided I didn't like anything about how the grounds were attached, and that I should re-do all of them :rolleyes:

Results are not pretty, I'll go back through and clean it up & make it look more proper when I've got more time, maybe tomorrow :unsure:

But, the grounds are definitely more solid now :thumbsup:

Between that, fixing the bridge inserts, and the Nexus strings, the Blackbird is no longer my brightest Thunderbird - it may be the darkest, even more than the Redbird :smug:

Im mainly a pick player myself but different songs require different approaches. In The Who and Zeppelin tribute it's about 50/50 fingers or pick, Bad Co all fingers, any original recording I'm all pick. JOHNNY SMOKE is back in the studio and I am very pleased with my sound, hopefully soon I'll have some new stuff for you. That's a good policy to have, when you can ;) , and is my preference for stuff that hasn't been previously futzed with.

But, I knew this Blackbird had been, since the on/off switch has been replaced w/a vol pot - and when I plugged in & had no sound....time to start checking the grounds :facepalm:


But the thing is sounding really great now, been playing it since & comparing it with the Redbird. It is a bit...deeper? sounding, and also louder, at same amp setting.
Much improved :thumbsup:
