Thunderbird Club

Ed’s first day on guitar, the day Leon came back, the very first thing he played was the intro to Sweet Home Alabama.
Funny think... I never get tired of Freebird. Never. but radio play soured Sweet Home Alabama for me for a long time- despite that brilliant, nasty distorted Strat work.

I’m thrilled to see Leon getting some love here. In the 4 years I’ve been on here, I’ve never seen him mentioned before.

Granted, I started out on the Cowpoke page.

I play in a Skynyrd tribute band and fill in in another one.

I’ve always said he was my original reason for interest in Thunderbirds. We’ve discussed him before, but never this much that I’ve seen. Bout dang time.

That's a good policy to have, when you can ;) , and is my preference for stuff that hasn't been previously futzed with.

But, I knew this Blackbird had been, since the on/off switch has been replaced w/a vol pot - and when I plugged in & had no sound....time to start checking the grounds

But the thing is sounding really great now, been playing it since & comparing it with the Redbird. It is a bit...deeper? sounding, and also louder, at same amp setting.
Much improved
Cool. Since your new Blackbird is now sounding so much better than that red TBird thing feel free to throw old red my way.;)

I just need the pickups. Still can’t recall what they are, tho.
According to this website - pre early 1980's pups were Maxon and post 1983 were Fujigen. I have the Maxon pups in mine and they're stellar.

Neither Sweetwater nor L&M are yet showing NR Thunderbirds on their webpages yet.

Worse, I still can't play. I do not have enough grip strength to fret a note. Neurologist consult isn't scheduled until the end of May; I am working on getting that moved up. But there will be an MRI at a minimum adding a couple of weeks and then probably a month or two wait for plastic surgery. So playing bass and kayaking are really getting screwed up this summer...
Ugh. Praying the healing speeds up drastically.

Thanks. I have seen that. But which pickups? I was thinking someone has mentioned a specific model. Maybe not...

Where do picks go? One of life's mysteries. When we cleared out my parents estate I found a cache of picks in and under the cloths dryer, even my polished stone Mind Pick that went missing in my teens. Totally useless for bass, I've been meaning to get a hole drilled in it so I can wear it.View attachment 4239185

i recently found one of my favorite stainless steel picks from my guitar days. Haven’t gotten into it on bass so far.

for today’s gig....

lol...looks like a little mouse....my high school teacher swore by those for guitar, he played a Gibson Birdland, Joe Pass style when we gigged, great dynamic range....

How do you like the Compressore?
I like it enough to keep it, despite it's size and 12v 600mA requirement. It complicated my new pedalboard a little as I had to run a wall wart in addition to my Onespot CS7. But the tone is worth it, and it tames the Thunderbird/new string/heavy handed hard Rock clack which can be very obvious in a 3 piece band. The tube is actually used in the compression, and IMO, in the tone circuit. Life would have been easier without it for sure.
