Because of our 'typical' crowd, we start off with a set list which lasts about 3 to 4 songs and promptly goes off the rails as we play to the wants/requests. No BFD, we have ~200 songs we can do. Whatever.

And to celebrate Thunderbird Thursday - here's the bass I'll be playing on May 29th at Winters Beer Garden with TSC's -

...ok, so not strictly a T-bird, but it has an Epi Goth T-bird neck ok? And it 'cuts through the mix', 'plays like butter', 'kills' ... yah, it rocks.

2 songs from our set-list played/recorded on the Teiscobird -

I'm always amused by 'plays like butter'. ??? Sticky and quickly rancid? Ahhh, nope.

Yah, we're not that band. One specific song right after the other, strategically composed and ordered for maximum gestalt. Leaves people in tears... :roflmao: (I hope not!)

Yah - hate that phrase. Only use it mockingly. Every time someone uses it I say to myself (myself...) Is that really all you got? :rollno:

Not knocking that, in fact I played in a touring band that had a set 'show'. Didn't hafta concern ourselves with what to do next, but that won't work for our crowds(55+), venues(restaurant/lounges), and hours(6 to 9). We start the night off easy with a coupla instrumentals or 'standards' to acclimate the folks to the fact we're live, not a Bose wave radio. By the 3rd song it's "can you do "Old Time Rock n Roll?" Bye-bye set list.

That's entertainment!

 Yeah, well. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Or people singing to tracks.
TBH, I wouldn't mind in the least working to a set set list. But it simply won't work-for the places we play.

Hey, we do what we have to do to continue what we love to do! At the end of the day - we're pretty lucky to do whatever version of what we love doing that is available. :) ...and yah, better than a poke in the eye!

That was one of the things I liked about playing w/ the coupla big bands I've worked with. Sets as is. Set up your set of charts and the only deviation would be to skip one at the the BL's direction. If there was a request for something we had a chart for that wasn't scheduled, it might get added on the break, depending mostly on who made the request(i.e., the person who booked us)or attitude-or $.

I understand a band that can draw on many songs randomly per request - seriously commendable and a sign of journeymen musicians. What I ty to do with TSC's has more of a conceptual performance basis. A set (to me) is a blank canvas which is composed, began and completed by the last song. (achieving the intended gestalt) Like a famous band doing their "classic album" live in the same song order. But to throw in a wrench, our current bi-line is: The Sean Conneries - Eccentric Pop-Rock Potpourri, which joins "Unpredictably Fun music" ... deliberate, but just not what anyone would expect. (I hate predictable set-lists)

We have certain numbers we know from past(certainly not future)experience 'work'. But something always f---s* it up.

What time’s downbeat?

That is very much what we try to do, stick to the set list and play the show, no requests. Minus the tears of course.
It's worked very well over the years and we've never, ever had to cover "those songs" that are often groaned about (insert whatever song you want there) and we get paid, usually pretty well. We're hopefully going to rehearse this Sunday 5/23, fingers crossed!

I'm hearing that there may be a Seattle GTG in the Fall this year, you'd better bring it!

Are you working out of the office again? I've been at work without much break for better than a year - going to take a long weekend next week as I'm in need of some quality "girl time". I think Emerald City sold their '64 , there's another close to you though,
1964 Gibson Thunderbird II Vintage Bass Guitar John Entwistle Signed w/ Case | Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar | Reverb

Too bad it's signed, that's actually a turn off for me. I have a legal hoop to jump through before I can go ahead and buy a '64 this year, it's not too big a deal, my ex's name is still on the house title and it is in the process of being changed legally......Patience isn't one of my virtues.
:roflmao:

A big yes to all of those things.

The Flamingo will be at any GTG in Seattle when it happens. You have to promise not to charm it so much that it refuses to come home with me

I couldn't agree more about the signature on the one Mike and Mike have. That is a real negative. They have an excellent luthier working for them, if he is still there. At least it will be well set up.

And having patience sucks!

I have ended up playing what amounted to live karaoke backing a few times. Some of the songs were songs we didn't exactly know, but pulled it off somehow. Good thing the audience was drunk. It was more fun than it sounds like it should have been and we got paid pretty well. That never happened when a Thunderbird was around. This may be significant.

What time’s downbeat?

4pm - fingers are crossed that it will be a 'nice' day on the weekend launching summer. ("summer" in Pacifica is generally foggy~) 3pm band (Surf Monster) is good also - instrumental left-handed guitarist surf/rockabilly trio.

Enjoy your reentry to rehearsals! We're definitely thankful to be back! :bassist:
