Thunderbird Club

They were a great and interesting band from Texas, as you know doubt know. I and keyboard player friend got to meet and spend the afternoon with Kim Davis, the other guitar player once. Short story was they were opening up for Rossington Collins Band. Talked to Kim that afternoon and hung out a while and he was going to try to get us backstage at the concert. He told us to meet him over to the side of the stage when they got finished playing. We kind of figured he would forget all about it. As soon as they finished their set he saw a standing over to the side and came directly over to us and started talking with us again. Stood there for a long while and talked again until other people saw him talking with us so he said he was going to go take a shower and come back and see if he could get some passes. He couldn't so he came back and stood and talked to us for a long time again. Until Rossington Collins Band came out. They saw him standing there talking to us so several of them came over and talked and shook hands as well before going on stage. Sadly Kim took his life a few years ago. He was a really nice down to earth guy. Interesting fact. He used to be in a band with Stevie Ray Vaughan before either of them were famous.
Great back story. I love hearing about all the cool things and neat people our club members have encountered in life.

Beautiful II
Is it a modded CP?
Very well done.

You and me both! This working stuff is for the birds!
Been retired since 2013. All I can say is this retirement thing is highly under rated. I'd recommend doing it as soon as you can afford it.

Happy Thunderbird Thursday! :)

If everything goes as planned, I'll be out of here Fall of '24. 34 years of service and just shy of my 56th birthday. Fingers crossed.

There may be a buyout in the Fall of '23. I can't count on that but I'm hopeful.

More time to play Thunderbirds too!

Hat? Of course. Prolly my Krispy Kreme hat. Already have-and use-the stool*. I gots more amps than I can say grace over. The 200c has been more than enuff for these gigs. So they'll hafta like what they get.

*not a production model. It's a sample.:smug:
over here Krispy Kreme is giving free donuts if you show your vaccination card..

Sounds like a good plan! Hope it all unfolds as intended and exceeds your expectations.
I can honestly say, retiring probably added years to my life. I was in a 24/7 high stress global job while still working.

LOL - with all the hysteria on both sides of the vax and junk food camps its laughably debatable as to whether the shot or the donut has worse potential side effects. :D

You are fortunate, working for one employer with good benefits that allows you to retire at a reasonable age. My brother was able to retire after 31 years at Volvo and is now designing for a startup EV company whose checks clear the bank. Not sure how much longer he’ll stick to it; he’s 61.

I’ll be 67 and eight months (4 years and 41/2 months) when I can stop completely, although I’ll likely leave the current gig in three years, 17 days, 5 hours and 12 minutes.

The pathology report will be a mess. The corner won't know whether to determine cause of death being from vaccine or donut contingencies.

Thank you. GM skilled trades has been good to me.

Good luck with your plan!

:roflmao:

We had a guy here at work that kept a countdown calendar on his cubicle wall. He started it with something like 4000 days to go based on getting to 30 years for a full pension.

When he got to day 0, he changed it to a count past calendar and started adding days since he could've retired. He went about another 3 years. You know what they say about best laid plans...

:roflmao:

:roflmao: It's a possibility. You two live fairly close to one another, right?
Yep, and we work even closer together. We are about four blocks apart during the workday. One of these days, we need to make a Thunderbird visitation at lunchtime when Emerald City Guitars has a '64 or so. They had one with no serial number about 10 years ago, and they only wanted something like $1500 for it at the time. I'm still kicking myself because it didn't follow me home then. Little did I know that a whole lot of them have that issue from headstock repairs. And little did I know that the price of a vintage Thunderbird would rocket through the roof. Oh, well. That doesn't mean there's no opportunity to go visit one and lust after it.

I have spent most of my career in a highly unstable field. For the past ten years, things have been stable. It's a huge change, and I like it a lot. It will be another nine or ten years before I retire, although the HR director says they won't let me retire. We will see about that.

Thunderbird Thursday. A few birds in the bush and none in my hands...

I made the chair, and got the 'Bird painted. I had nothing to do with the floor inlay except that it's in the dining room. Same with the lovely thermostat.

That Thunderbird is the Flamingo. I'm a little concerned that it might run away with Veronica if they ever met.

I'm hearing that there may be a Seattle GTG in the Fall this year, you'd better bring it!

Are you working out of the office again? I've been at work without much break for better than a year - going to take a long weekend next week as I'm in need of some quality "girl time". I think Emerald City sold their '64 , there's another close to you though,
1964 Gibson Thunderbird II Vintage Bass Guitar John Entwistle Signed w/ Case | Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar | Reverb

Too bad it's signed, that's actually a turn off for me. I have a legal hoop to jump through before I can go ahead and buy a '64 this year, it's not too big a deal, my ex's name is still on the house title and it is in the process of being changed legally......Patience isn't one of my virtues.
