When I was at L&M, there weren't any VPs, but there was an Embassy, so I used that for trying amps. Don't think I've ever seen one in a store before. I liked it! The neck was similar to my Casady and it was actually set up with decent action.
Down here the only place I've ever seen and tried them was Sam Ash.

Working on new music and getting ready for some shows, been using the VP almost exclusively the last few months. Just straight into the 2000s and 2x15, neck pickup only, tone wide open. Wearing my new SLADE shirt

I recall when that sort of gear was normal to find in pawn shops an CL around here. Now it's mostly entry-level gear. over-priced gear, or esoteric gear.
Wentto South Austin Music today, once the haven of awesome used gear. They still have some of that, but they have what look like new Eastwoods and such, too. They only had a handful of basses. Online they said they had a 60s Thunderbird, but it wasn't there. There *was* a pretty sweet early Hagstom bass counterpart to my Hagstrom I guitar, with that lovely think neck, but I can't justify a grand for a bass I won't play that much. <sigh> They had an early SVT fridge stack for 5 grand.They also had a gold Kustom stack pretty cheap but the amp looked to be half way through a rebuild. Bleah.
The B-Quad 4 neck is still my favorite bass neck ever. I owned a trans purple model for a while. Really loved playing it. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
