Thunderbird Club

Just out of curiosity, I hooked up my current live rig (Mesa TT800/uBergHDN212) in the garage to test the new strings I put on my Gibson and Drake basses. The Drake has SIT Power Flats. They sound pretty nice to me, but you never fully know until you play in a band setting. So far I like em, but I’m not sure I like em as much as Cobalts, which punch like a roundwound.
Then I hooked up my ‘02 Gibson TBird (Lollar pickups) with the Dunlop MM Super Brights. I’d only ever tried the old Super Brights, which aren’t (ironically) terribly bright. The MM Super Brights are tear your head off bright! Holy cow. Anyone know if they tame down a bit fairly quick? Hope so, and I like fairly bright strings. They do have nice low end a punch.
Someone sent me a quick clip of Tuesday’s gig. Same live rig, but the ‘Bird still has the SIT Power Steels. In my mind, they seemed a bit dead, but hearing this clip, it coulda just been where I was standing on stage

I liked PF pre-drugs, but really fell in love during, and that’s when DSOTM came out. Interestingly, most of tge music I loved best high, tripping, etc., I still love. Not all, but most, from PF to the Dead to Hawkwind to ABB to …[/QUOTE]

Reminded me of this.

There were at least two made!

Seriously though, since when is a musical instrument's ability to be dropped a criterion for quality - Pianos don't seem to take that sort of abuse well. Brass or woodwinds?

LOL - I’ve often thought the same thing. The Thunderbird is designed and built for its intended purpose, and it works quite well at that. If you intend to play hockey or baseball with your bass the Fender may be a better design. :D

What does "the truss rod responds but the guitar is not playable" even mean? Couldn't they at least say why? $25 to ship?
Not sure what they mean about the truss rod responding. I tried conversing with all of mine and no matter how loud I yelled none of them responded.
As for $25 shipping - I’d need to ask the seller if he’s shipping it insured and packing it to prevent damage.

The short translation; neck issues. Unless whoever buying it is versed in neck repair, steer clear. And as someone who is, it would have to be pretty cheap to consider buying it.

Exactly.
Although for a very short period Fender did try to embrace the unique Gibson design feature, and on a very limited run offered their own detachable headstock design. It fell flat with Fender loyalists and was quickly discontinued.

Pete Townshend was an early endorser.

Mine came in the original manufacturer's box, packed inside another (double boxed)

That's what I was figuring with mine, said the same thing in the posting. Bid on it as if for just the parts, & got the bonus of nothing but finish cracks.

If I were gonna bid on this one, I'd do the same: with the assumption it's broken, and to be used for parts.

You're making me want to bid on it! :bored:

Probably the most valuable example -

Most things can be repaired, but if the neck is bad and it being a neck-thru... I always set a price ceiling for myself and if outbid - whatever.

Loved Camel when I was younger, haven’t heard it much in the last 30 years and don’t have any of their stuff on LP or CD or streaming, I’d forgotten all about them, thanks for posting the flashback.

Camel - Moon Madness; Yes - Fragile; everything by The Grateful Dead; and PF - Wish You Were Here / DSOTM were mainstays at every chemically inclined gathering I attended. To this day I still love all the trippy prog stuff even without the chemicals.

It's coming as a kit.

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I guess they're tryin' to prevent anyone complaining they didn't see it, or the print's too small...my guess is it's been an issue before.

I've gotten a few basses from them, including my VP, and they've all been better than described. Got nothing but positive experiences with them

Even with the crazy fonts
(i just chalked it up to them being Yankees, and never paid it no mind....;) :bag: )
Good to know.

I have some vinyl. I'll have to see how many. Moon Madness is one and I actually listened to it not too long ago.

I know I owned Moon Madness when I was a kid, but I can’t remember anything about it...yeah, I did drugs back then :)

I learned that lesson the hard way, back when eBay was new :(

Yah, I also made some early eBay mistakes - but I've become a pretty saavy eBayer since and take time to consider everything in detail before buying anything. Limited pics/Blurry pics? next - three word description? next - not 100% feedback rating? next.
