Thunderbird Club

Birds previously owned: Epi Natural Pro IV, Alpine white Classic Pro IV, Gibson 2008 VS.

Bird currently owned: Epiphone IV Sunburst.

The next bird is going to be a Gibson Ebony. Or cherry.

There. I said it.

Were I to say how many basses I've sold........

Trail of tears.

I just played the P at home for an hour, no pain, so on the hangar goes the Thunderjazz until I decide which neck to put on it, but I'll still take it to gigs as a backup to the ThunderP.

Now to watch the EURO Cup, G o England!!!

Nice selection on the wall there. Plenty of good options. I see you have a Fender Telecaster Modern Player. I have one as well and love it. The neck pup grunts like a wild boar. It was my go to bass for Reggae and Club Dub, and possibly the most Gibson sounding bass they’ve ever made.
Unfortunately they’re discontinued now. IMHO it was Fender’s best offering in the sub $1000 bracket in the last decade.

I’m more of a hoarder than a flipper. I’ve put a grand total of four of my basses on the block in the last quarter century. A Schecter (my first bass purchase), a G&L 2500 Tribute (Swiss army knife of tones with only one good blade), Pedulla Pentabuzz non fretted bass (just didn’t play fretless enough to justify keeping it) and a Stingray SR5 (couldn’t get on with the 3 band preamp, spoiled by the original Stingray two band). The good news is, I really don’t regret selling any of them.

VERY good sounding bass, does have a Gibson vibe, even with the Harley buckle (my deceased Father's, he wore it every day for his last 30 years). Sadly, very heavy. The PUPs could be used in a project were I so inclined.

I visited their Vaudreuil store yesterday, that's where I tried the ebony VP and the Gibson VS. Almost walked out with the VS. Prolly would not have been so strong if that Gibby woulda been ebony. There's one in Orleans Who knows...

As for the NRs... I'd have to try one. I'll be frank (I'll let others decide if they want to be surelys...), I'm more attracted towards the reverse models. I find that shape and vibe just... irresistible. And we haven't even touched tone...

Yeah. I'm still not over selling the 2008 Gibby last year.

And that's why for me the Thunderbird is the ultimate package. Sounds great, looks great, comfortable to play, and very light.

At one point I considered buying a modern player fixer upper just for the pups to put in a Tbird, but IIRC the string spacing wouldn’t work out right.

Played out yesterday for the first time since the start of Pandemonium, a small gathering at a marina in Warwick RI. This little monster brought them the Thunder we were otherwise spared on Saturday...

Yes. It makes me slump and exhale in subdued grief. Then I hope wisdom has taken hold somewhere, to be invested in some small redemption.

In my case, the jury is still out.........I'm full of stupid

I.E. I once had an early '70s Musicman, the one everybody raves about...........D'oh!

Had the opportunity to try out VP for the 1st time today and compare it to a new Gibby.... the VP sounded a bit meaner, but she was on the heavier side, is that their DNA, being mean and heavy ? The Gibby was a jem, just not ready for her yet.
My VPs are both slightly heavier than my '06, but a lot lighter than the '76! VPs can certainly be meaner sounding than the modern Gibson's. They have something going on like the 60s version, but can do big and mellow as well. This is why also they are a super close match tone-wise to the 60s versions. They sound like they historically should. But my '06 is a sweet playing as my '64 or anything else I own. If the headstock on my burst VP ever fails, those PUs will be going into the '06 and it will be the bass Gibson should have made/be making.;)

And yes, the necks are a little thicker. The Gibson's are perfect and play like Tuna.

(No body says that and I'm tired of plays like butter.)

Ah, you have made me sad. But not as sad as I was already (or may make you now)... I could've had one of those for $300 in 1991, and did not.

I am sorry.

Which Flyrig ya using ?
First edition, "Bass Fly Rig". That goes to tape/HD like you read about. Really good device.

The Beringer tuner is in the amp case just for the lights that shine downwards onto the face of whatever amp, etc is below (the reggae band plays outdoors at night). It came with a purchase, and I ordinarily have no use for Behringer. The Fly Rig has a tuner...

Do you have arthritis in your hands? If so, that may adequately explain the pain (or not).

I have known for sometime that I was destined to have arthritis in my hands. Call it either a series of poor decisions or a life well lived. One of the reasons I took up playing bass was to keep up mobility in my hands. It was either play bass or take up knitting, and I can only wear so many sweaters...
Well think of what you could be making...

I don't miss that bass, yes it played really well but I never managed to get a tone out of it that I liked. I was using a pick a lot at that point, sounded great with my 4001, not so much with the MM.

Well then all you missed out on was a free mortgage payment or two if you'd held onto it a little longer! :D
