Thunderbird Club

I'm thinking of getting an arctic white thunderbird and I'm thinking of swapping out most of the hardware, only thing is the pickups I'm looking to put in it are chrome so all the other hardware has to match. What are people's opinions on white thunderbirds with all chrome hardware?

They are quite popular with this crowd.

That’s a beauty, too. I know the “standard” colors are vintage sunburst and ebony, but it’d be nice if Gibson would throw in 1 or 2 additional colors into the rotation each year. They’d definitely sell. Look at how well the current non-reverse basses are doing. Just 1 person’s opinion!
False! More than 1 person’s opinion. I’ve thought for years they were nuts for not doing that. You can buy a Les Paul in every color or combination known to man, and a dozen we haven’t invented or discovered. But Thunderbirds? Black. Brown. Once in a while white. Blarg.

Good to know! I was worried the whole thing would clash especially with a darker fret board and the black headstock.

White Birds with chromey bits

white is a more than acceptable colour.

but sometimes ya gotta roll your own, Gibson needs more gold ones.

Has anyone added a Tuna-matic tailpiece to a 3 point bridge?

Look at any Greco Thunderbird and you can see what it looks like. Most people think it looks kinda silly.

With chrome or nickel hardware and a bridge cover it looks kind of retro, I like it. Without the cover it looks a bit odd. Functionally, it’s a good method for eliminating a chronic lifting bridge from ever lifting again. Watch out is that with low tension strings and aggressive playing the bridge can slide back a bit over time since there’s nothing pulling the bridge snug against the body bolts.
