You might be able to get a used one from your local Guitar Center.


Lots here use the flats and love them, me included. The cobalt rounds were deadly on frets, avoid them.


The pyramids are pricey, about the same cost as my favorite round - Optima Gold Uniques. Except the Optima Golds last a lot longer and step up the bling factor with their gold plating. Before you buy another set of Pyramids give the Optimas a try.

I will likely never do it, but the white VP would look great with gold hardware and gold strings. Gaudy maybe, but great. Shallow is good.

So I am totally losing it. I thought the post was Ken's. Anyway, I had a nice evening comparing the necks of the '13 and the '21 NRs. I went through the same songs with each (Heros, Psycho Killer, Rhiannon, Year of the Cat). Both have stainless rounds. Both felt pretty similar to me with the '21 slightly flatter, which could be the shaping of that particular neck. I like both necks. I love both Thunderbirds.

Getting tired of waiting for Eppi to release a NR, so the heck with it. I’m just gonna do a parts bass build with the goal of going full bling but keeping it under $1000. Body is on order (had to go reverse, no NR bodies to be found), neck is on order. In the spirit of full bling ideally it will have all gold hardware. If I can source a two piece bridge, lightweight lollipops and gold pup covers at reasonable prices I’ll be in good shape. The $1000 challenge is the hard part. If all goes well it will be a sister bass to my blonde tiger stripe SG Supreme…

Hey guys, I just got a motorcycle accident few hours ago. The doctor said I need a few weeks to be able to put weight on my shoulders. Got a swollen knee and shoulder, few bruises and stitches. Anyone have any experience with swollen shoulder before? As soon as I've got home, I played my guitar and my shoulder not feel right. Should play on a charity event this Saturday. My option is either playing while sit or cancel the event.

Not sure what neck you’re using, but I just bought these for my MIJ NR copy. The are lighter than the small post Hipshot clovers presently on the bass. Bought them here:

You have my sympathies. I have been through my own set of orthopaedic issues the last couple of years.

I would recommend following your doctor's instructions. He/she has the most experience.

But what do I know - I'm just some stranger on the internet with an opinion.

If it were me, I’d line up a back up player if I could and have him/her attend the event as a stage hand to help with the load in/out and set up. Then I’d play sitting and if I needed a break or couldn’t finish the set the backup could step in. Might cost you some money out of pocket to do that but if your set list is fairly standard songs it could work out ok.
BTW - sorry to hear about the accident, but on a bike I suppose it could have been much worse. Get well soon.

Does anyone know of any Thunderbird 5 pickups? I might actually buy one of those instead of the four but the pickups are the 4 string ones so they don't pickup the B string properly.

A Gibson 5? Epi Pro V? Which model? Some Epi Pro Vs had 4 string pickups by mistake, some had 5 string pickups. (That particular model had several QC issues, it seems.)
