This is what works for me as well for all basses. The Goldilocks zone.
That’s about where my strap length is set (roughly the same sitting as standing, maybe a tad lower). This guy kinda sums it up nicely…
I’m not a fan of this at all…

And I don’t really fall into this camp either…

Just happy playin in the middle.
He's an EMT.
I might be getting lost in abbreviations here - The Docklands Light Rail is an Electronic Money Transfer??
? not familiar with that phrase - it's usually a bit lower standing than seated depending on the bass
OK ok I can't hold back the ask anymore! This is built around a Curtis Novak Tbird pickup wired like a PBass but with a Tbird correct 500k over 250K concentric. The Chickenhead goes like this Just the PU, the PU and a Novak EB choke and a black ice battery free overdrive. I really wanted a Thunderbird II but I can't afford on like that black and gold beauty in post #188066. Can I be part of your club?

What Larry said, but here: Not too high, not too low....just right.? not familiar with that phrase - it's usually a bit lower standing than seated depending on the bass
unless you are referring to Trevor Dunn...

Good news, shop was fast and professional. New one should be here by Friday. In the short time I had this one really liked the weight, sound and look. Also, when the new one comes I am only one bass away from the Gibson infinity gauntlet.
Not sure.Still?
BTW I didn’t answer your question. I’m doing well just fell into a new band with some coworkers and decided to update some gear ended up back here checking out classifieds. Of course I had to check out The Club while I was here!Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, I’ve been lagging on using social media at all as of late.
Thanks to Scott (God of Thunder) for the pickup cover / hand rest, my VPII is now complete. View attachment 4420602 View attachment 4420603
Levys makes extra long straps. I use those now, and have them pretty much as long as they will go. Like Irv, I typically keep it swung around onto my right hip, or like Geo, with the neck tilted way up. Sometimes both. It depends on what sound and technique the song calls for. Using a pick, I sometimes go full gorilla with both arms mostly extended. If the song requires more left hand articulation, I have to have the neck tipped up more. Full gorilla is kinda fun because I feel like a complete rock star when the bass is down there like that, although trying to fret quickly isn't an option since it requires too much wrist bend with the bass too low.Looks like you shoot from the hip. I thought about trying that more often, it feels comfortable every time I’ve done it but for some reason, if I don’t think about it, my bass just gravitates back to front and center.
I’ve struggled to find extra long straps. Most f mine are Levy brand leather and fully maxed out are just a couple of inches shorter than I’d really like. Moving the strap button makes a lot of sense, can’t believe I hadn’t tried that yet. Thx for bringing it to my attention, I might just make that the sweet spot on my Bling Bird build.![]()
This showed up at my friend/tech's house today. He tracked it until he found the real seller. He was able to score it for several hundred less than the non-owners were listing it for. He said it arrived with a perfect setup and needed nothing out of the box. He said it is super growly and aggressive. And yes, that is gold hardware, including the pickup.
When he sells basses he always gives me first shot. I am using the power of positive thinking that this one will come my way some day.

I have extended most of my straps except for that one in the pic I posted. It’s a 4.5” wide Levy’s XL strap. Laying it on the floor just now, it measures 64” between the hole centers.25768825[/URL], member: 85055"]Looks like you shoot from the hip. Up date pickup swap. For those of you who may have missed it Mark (our royal highness) and I did a pickup swap. His Epiphone Vintage Pro 760 Probuckers for my 2021 Gibson Nonreverse pickups. While the new Gibson pickups are very good they lack the grit I associate with 60s Thunderbird pickups, that mild inherent distortion I am always going on about. I put one Epi 760 in the neck position of my 2021 Nonreverse and it's a completely different animal! I couldn't be happier, for my style of playing it's a much better match. Very happy we made the trade.
I'll get some sound clips when I can. The next question is what to put the other Epi pickup in. View attachment 4443255 View attachment 4443256 View attachment 4443257
