Re-coning a speaker can be a pain in the a$$. I just had a 6v6 cabinet built and put this Mesa Boogie speaker in it. THUNDER! That Peavey cab is quite a bit smaller than a 6v6 so it will likely be somewhat "punchier." The Neo magnet in the Boogie speaker is really light.......and that rules. It won't sound the same as a black widow but it is a great low end rumbler. I pair it with a 2x10 that has a tweeter to cover the mid punch and high. I finally got a chance the play my Curtis Novak Tbirb pickup through that stack, with the band last week..........Awesome!

I would put casters on the cab and not be too concerned with the weight of the driver. You could also remove those aluminum angle pieces from the grille to better match your Peavey combo.

Yeah, digging onto the specs is one thing I'll need to do. But my choices may be limited a bit by Covid, a lot of speakers are "out of stock" or "special order".
I suppose a good used unit should also be considered as an oprion.....

And the weight thing's not gonna matter much - the cab itself is really heavy. I weighed the speaker/magnet assembly, it was 17 lbs.

Of course, losing 7 or 10 lbs wouldn't hurt it! ;)

I played through one of these one night and really liked it https://reverb.com/marketplace?product_type=amps&query=Orange OBC115 1x15 Bass Cabinet

It doesn't have a Neo magnet in and there were no used ones close (expensive to ship for a private seller) so I reached out to a banjo player (I know, I generally I avoid those too) who makes amps and had him made the cabinet from me with TL606 plans ( I don't know where I got 6v6, sorry). The Orange and many other cab use this design. The Banjo guy made me a good deal so I put the pricey Mesa Boogie Neo in it.Puts me at $550 total but really light for how great it sounds. You already have a cab...go Neo!

best example (imho) would be;
picture a small car with a small engine…… there isn’t much that car can do to hurt that engine…..
the forces developed in a larger heavier frame, can be more harmful to that same small engine…make sense?
what ends up happening is the smaller amp’s output stage will be able to drive the cones to an acceptable excursion but are not typically rugged enough to withstand the electrical transients reflected back to it the cone will induce when bouncing back to it’s 0 position…..interesting failure mechanism…

Interesting.

The guitar players from Sloan (Canadian band) use little Traynor Darkhorse 15s (15w amp) to drive 412 stacks. Their reasoning is that they can get the loud rock n roll sound without being really loud on stage.

The bass player sensibly uses a Traynor YBA 300 through a Traynor 810.
