I just finished cooking a traditional breakfast (pancakes, bacon and eggs) this morning, but as is family tradition, I did a little something different with the pancakes for my daughter. She loves Alaskan king crab, which we are having for dinner, so I made her some crab for breakfast as well…

Texans. Always have to be contrarians.

We’re traditionalists. Salad, turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, yams, green beans, and rolls. Pumpkin and apple pie. I’m about ready to get up and get the turkey in the oven. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

My wife is from Georgia, and loves her traditions (and often, her ruts[1]). But neither of us is a huge turkey fan. We still have it some years, but it is no longer a given. We're still having dressing, blue-cran-berry sauce, mashed taters, broccoli casserole, ambrosia, and pies (pumpkin, pecan, apple). I may be forgetting something...

[1] I'm not discussing that sort at the moment, so go ahem yourself!

I know, it's really a preference thing. I just have other things to do than subjectively attempting to decipher verbal puzzles! (Even when I used undocumented pharmaceuticals.)

If I otherwise like the song, I'm fine with nonsense lyrics. I spout enough myself.

Mark, hang on to bass for awhile, run it through your rig and maybe with some different strings, I can say mine certainly makes a fair bit of low end ( still has the factory strings on it, I like how they sound). I can't seem to get enough of playing it, I just dig it that much.

As I said. I don't know that it is because she is a diva, but I wonder if it could be.

My comparable is academics. Many of the most brilliant academics have bizarre personality quirks*. Some of them consciously cultivate bizarre personality quirks as a means of being seen to be brilliant. It is a strange form of branding.

* Some examples - the brilliant neurologist who can't navigate a hotel to get from his room to the restaurant for breakfast, the neuroscientist who dresses like Billy Idol, the medicinal chemist who was so distracted that he would get hit by streetcars (trams) because he was lost in thought rather than looking at traffic...

For sure - artists (visual/musical/theatrical etc) are well known for being eccentric. It does makes it difficult to nail down where concept and eccentricity live but that's part of the story. In most ways it's not personally questioned for fear of derailing what makes being creative happen. (don't kiss a gift horse on the mouth...) Because of that artists are usually pretty tough people because of the fragility of their creative nature and how the world responds to their striving to explore/expand accepted reality/perception/sensibilities.

LOL - I love the centerpiece but my wife says it ain’t gonna happen in this house. And she also says your wife has excellent taste. We have exact same Minton Jasmine fine China plates, Waterford Crystal glasses and Towle Silver flatware - what are the odds of that happening! Guess I need to buy a 2021 PB NR bird to complete the picture.

That’s the ‘21 And yes you need one. The table settings are all wedding gifts (38 years ago) except the Waterford which we’ve bought a piece or two at a time over the years.

I finally got back to the States and grabbed new Sparkling Burgundy or whatever the color is called and after setting it up, (it had been sitting in the cold in an unheated room at my brother's for several months), this is a beautiful bass, plays like a dream. I haven't plugged it in yet but again I am very impressed by Gibson's workmanship and attention to detail. My first was a 2018 LE ebony T-Bird and now this, both came virtually perfect. I can't wait to see how it sounds. I assume these come with .105 strings? The only thing I don't like is, why do they send a generic owners manual that is so skimpy on bass details? But the bass is perfect, easy to play all the way up the neck, fretwork is very nice and the color is a lot nicer in person than in pictures.
I was playing around with the three point bridge which I've never gotten along with and think I finally figured it out, I just took the strings right off and screwed them all down by eye and it came out perfect, next time I'll just loosen the strings enough so that the posts turn easily.

Congrats! Sounds like it was worth the wait. Enjoy.

With academics, it is best to ignore the eccentricity. They will inevitably ramp up the crazy for attention if they are fakes, eventually self-destructing. The true eccentrics aren't going to change so just live with it.
