Thunderbird Club

I stopped by the Pawn Shop that I used to keep afloat with over a year's worth of interest payments, just to browse their gear. I was in the neighborhood that day.

Before, I would simply go in and hand them $$$, because there was no point in lingering around. So, I see a Peavey Mk VIII head in xlnt condition. They wanted $150, and I negotiated a "loyal customer" deal of 20% off that price. So $120 + tax. Never owned a Peavey, other than a 1x8 practice amp. It's a heck of an amp. Built-in chorus... sustain... EQ galore... bi-amp out... passive or active input. Well, you guys know what these are. I think the VIII was the last in the line, and a couple earlier ones are more coveted. But I couldn't be happier, and lucked out, having the extra money for once. I bought a generic 2-button FS on eBay for the chorus & sustain on/off, with part of the money I saved on the amp. I've only played it through a Hartke 410 thus far, and each of my basses sound awesome through it. Got it to have as a backup.... but I think it could be my main rig now.

Makes you wonder.... if the shop wanted $150... what the dude in need of money pawned it for. And then couldn't afford to get it out (probably $100 ?). I doubt he just sold it to them outright, because he coulda got that, or more, on Craigslist.
Those look great! Nice score! I'd buy one for that if I ran across one around here.

I wish they would:

1. Makes a reverse in an color other than black/white/sunburst and use the pick-up rings on this model
2. Make the NR with the reverse neck profile
3. Use a 2 piece bridge on both
4. Offer special order (left handed/custom colors/relicing (for those who like it)

and do it all in a semi-consistent fashion.
Yes. Gibson should listen to that.

I’ve read it somewhere on here but now I can’t find it. Anyone know the total length of the VP? Don’t want to shell out $130 for the hard case so I’m trying to source a useable gig bag. If any even exist.
I think this will work. I had one that came with a used Gibson Thunderbird I bought. For a gig bag it was really nice. A VP looks to be about 51" and this said 50" I thought. A Gibson is about 49". So.... But look for demo or used Epi cases that are more of a triangle. They are nice. I got one for about 120 or so. Well worth it. Don't want those headstocks flying off!

Thanks! Was actually looking at that exact case this morning but didn’t see any mention of the VP or 60s in the reviews so wast sure if it would fit. I’d still like to get a measurement to be more sure. If only I could find my tape measurer. Lol

Well now. I kinda like it.

I guess it is a dressed up Studio Bird, but that is not a bad thing. I wonder if they will still release the one with the red binding/inlays?? Wasn't there also talk of a flying V bass from Gene's line as well?
